Wierd problems P25+Sinar+C1 3.6.1
Hi there,
I am a photographer based in San Francisco, CA. I also digital assist from time to time, mostly on the Phase One system. I wanted to ask some questions about some wierd operation in the software and also some biz questions.
Setup:
2x2ghz G5 running OS 10.3, 1GB memory, 200GB of diskspace
Running C1 Pro 3.6.1 with separate thumbnail, preview and focus windows
Sinar F with Schneider lenses on Copal 1 shutters
Kapture Group cable release
P25
Cambo sliding back
Behaviors/Questions:
1) On inconsistent occassions, the forward and backward buttons in the preview screen would no longer function. This would usually follow a capture. Workaround - I would have to go to the thumbnail screen and click on an image earlier in the take to be able to flip through the images again. Somewhat embarrassing in front of the photographer and her clients. Is this some kind of image memory caching issue?
2) If the shutter was not cocked and the cable release fired, the P25 would give me a sync error. I would press the upper left button and \"OK\" out of it on the back, but it freeze up and wouldn't let me do anymore captures. Workaround - power down/power up the back. Also somewhat embarrassing, but this was the fastest way to get going again. Is there a better way to correct from the workstation?
3) I could not properly use the 2-up or 4-up image comparison. I would select the 2-4 images I wanted to compare in the thumbnail screen and then select the 2 or 4-up comparison feature from the preview screen. Problem was that it would pull up totally different images-- from previous sessions. What am I doing wrong?
Business questions--
1) I was working with a NYC-based photographer on this shoot. I am a full-fledged photographer myself, skilled in lighting and film exposure. The NYC photographer found it odd when I would do \"normal\" assisting things, like helping out with lighting or setting up grip. In fact she said that most digital technicians just sit in front of the workstation all day. I thought I would get so bored if I did that! So is this mostly the case for NYC-based digital technicians?
2) Who is the Phase One rep in the SF Bay Area and what is their contact information?
Thanks in advance!!!

Hello Jay
Lets see if I can give you some answers.
1. Never heard about this, going to test this....
2. Kapture Group One Shot solution requires that you are very slow on the trigger, if you push it to quick the wake-up sequence goes to quick and you will get a time out when there is no delay (we are talking milliseconds required) between lens sync and wakeup signal.
3. As long as you have acctully chosen a thumbnail in your current session it should be fine, if you haven highlighted a thumbnail in current session I can see it go wrong.
Other questions:
1. I think there is some doing lightning and some that just sit in front of the screen, I have seen both when visiting studios in NYC area.
2. http://www.phaseone.com/Global/Dealers/ ... erica.aspx Here you will find contact information for Richard Herzog who handles CA.0 -
just a quick note in regards to the 2 an 4up comparisons. I use this all the time and I agree it is a bit stupid, but the best way is to start with no images selected, choose for example 4up, then click in each window one at a time, followed by each thumbnail you want to see there. It's good in that you can see them in whatever order you like. To change to a different selection, just click in the grey area of the window and choose a different image. Hope this helps and I haven't stated the obvious.

To answer your \"business\" question, you have to understand that you are hired as the digital technician, and not a photo assistant. If the photographer needs a hand, you should of course help, if it doesn't take away from the job that you are there to do...Help capture digitally.
I'm based in New York.
