Moving work from Computer to laptop

What is the best/correct way to move my work from my laptop onto an external HD to use on another machine?

  If you work in Sessions with the files stored in the capture folder, simply move the session folder to wherever you want.

  So you are working in a catalog. Are your images stored inside the catalog (managed) or outside it (referenced)?
