I have the Sony version and am new to the program. I am wondering why the lens that was used does not show up when I choose the lens profile icon. It will not even allow me to select. Does it automatically adjust for the lens? I am working on jpgs and maybe because the camera already adjusts for any distortion it does not show up. Will check some raw files. (found the answer, it does show up on raw files).

I understand any edits made on raw files are non destructive. I assume edits made on jpgs are, but please correct me if I am wrong. Because I do so much of my editing using a raw converter (even on jpgs) I rarely use Photoshop anymore. Occasionally I may want to use a content aware tool and it would be nice to be able to cut and paste from one image to another. I pay the $10 subscription for PS CC but am wondering if Elements would be all I need, not sure how handicapped the program is compared to PS.

The only 'destructive' part of the editing is when you export/"process" an image. Editing a jpeg just means you have less data to begin with.

    Not sure about PS Elements.

If you look in the "Profile" field in the lens tab, it probably says "Manufacturer Profile". I think that means that lens correction information is available from the file generated in the camera so Capture One does not need to provide a profile for the lens in question. I have a Sony RX10 III, and it shows that. I also have a couple of Nikons, and with some lenses (if they are supported) it shows the actual lens in the Profile field, whereas for others that are not supported (in the sense that there is no Capture One profile provided) it shows "No Profile". So if it says "Manufacturer Profile that is not quite the same as the lens being unsupported. I think!

Edited to add: and you won't be able to select a profile on a JPG file, only on a raw one, I think.

When I worked on a raw file I did see the lens being used listed, this did not happen on the jpg file. I know Sony (I have the a6300, a6500, and arr3) corrects for the lens right in the camera so makes sense none to be done with the software.

I am really liking the software. I had been using ACR and was using ON1. Capture Pro 11 seems to have more editing choices than ACR and just works better than ON1. I am sure I will be asking a lot of questions on this forum as I try and learn what the software can do.
