An authorization question
My trial is slowly coming to an end. I would like to buy v7 but would like to have the option of running v6 in case of any problems with v7. Question: if I buy v7 can I run both 6 and 7 on my MacPro and also 6 and 7 on my MacBook with the license code of v7? I do not want to have to de-activate v7 before being able to run v6 or the other way round. I simply want to be able to run both 6 and 7 both on my MacPro and on my MacBook. This, in my humble opinion, is not against the spirit of the licensing as it would always be the same software on both computers, just different versions.
Cheers, Bob.

I'm pretty sure someone will chime in here to confirm this but with a purchase of Capture One you actually have the ability to activate two machines at a time (ie your laptop and your desktop).
I know you can use your C1 v7 license to activate C1 v6 so the worst case scenario is that you're activating once for 6 and again for 7 on the same system - while losing the option to have anything activated on a second computer (because you've used both of your 2 activations).
I haven't tried this myself but I will this evening when I get home - I think it'll work just fine though.0 -
Thanks for chiming in here brianmerwin. You worst case scenario is precisely what I do not want to happen 😭
Having two versions of the same software on one and the same computer should not count as two activations. Moreover it is quite clear that this will only be a temporary situation depending on how soon v7 is all OK to be able to abandon v6 completely.

Yep - I totally understand where you're coming from on that one - even given that that 2 activations is already pretty generous compared software licensing models in general.
That said - if you haven't yet, be sure you're using version 7.01. It addressed a LOT of issues that version 7.0 had. I know the next version is in beta testing now so keep an eye out for that as well.0 -

Yes, this should be possible. I do it myself.
I have both CO6 and 7 installed on one machine, both activated with my CO7 key. They count as 1 activation.0 -
Thanks Paul, that good to know!

Well, I went ahead and got the upgrade. Authorized v7.0.1 on both my Mac Pro and my MacBook and low and behold without doing anything v6.4.4 on both computers are still working too, WITHOUT having done anything. Their license screen now still says that they are activated. The only difference is that the screen no longer gives numbers for free upgrades or activations left, just a line "-" and the activation history window is empty. The screens also still give the old original license code. I am at a loss what to do now: leave well alone? The only thing I could do is try the deactivate button in the hope of being able to reactivate with the new code, but is it worth it, everything seems to work 😄

Interesting Bob, you created a grey area of not being full activated because the CO6 key is deprived, and not fully deactivated. Congrats! 😉
I think either of both suggestions you give is OK. It works as long as it works.0 -
Yes, thanks Paul. I'll just leave well alone for the time being, it should after all be only a temporary situation with v6 sitting there as a failsafe in case of problems with v7. C1 v7 is just too much fun to work with 😄 , so I am not going back to v6 unless absolutely necessary for some reason or another.
