DNG Support ?
I`ve just upgraded my C1 license to V7 (after waiting for V8 which hasn`t appeared) . In the past, with V5 I used to use Adobe DNG converter to allow V5 to develop RAWs from cams which weren`t supported, it may not be ideal but it worked very well indeed and extended the life of the software (I didn't want the features or expense of version 6) , I`ve found that in V7 that DNG'd files from unsupported cams no longer show up (Tried the Olympus Stylus 1 and Panasonic GM1) despite the cams being based on the same sensor / tech as older fully supported cams ...
I actually in the past found that some unsupported cams were better in DNG because lens corrections weren't performed allowing wider angles from some lenses and better edge performance
I guess I`m asking, why doesn`t C1-7 work with DNG files from unsupported cams full stop and especially from the likes the GM1 which uses the same sensor as the rest of the non GH Panasonics . I wish it had the "give it a go at your own risk and what the hell" attitude of the earlier versions towards DNG . like many others , I can`t afford to upgrade my RAW converter every year just to get camera support - in fact I wish there was an option to just upgrade camera profiles , I`d still be C1 V5 if I could do that , it previews faster than 7 by miles and did all I need ..

Who says it doesn't? Have you actually tried? It certainly supports non-native DNG - so are you saying that with unsupported (by v.7) bodies the colours are out?I can`t afford to upgrade my RAW converter every year just to get camera support
Errmmm... Maybe don't update your cameras every year, then?0 -

of course I`ve tried,.. C1 doesn`t even see the DNG files at all as being there - Panasonic GM1 and Oly Stylus 1 RAWs converted by Adobe DNG .
I don`t upgrade cams every year but two I`m looking at for leisure use are both unsupported and DNG'd versions of the files aren`t seen by C1 7 despite both being based on cameras which are supported .
The question was as to why there`s limited DNG support even within cams from the same maker with the same sensor and processing engine ? . Anything HELPFUL would be welcome .0 -
CO7 supports DNG raw 1.2 (see release notes). Also note that for converted DNG it is not relevant whether the native raw format is supported by CO7 or not.
Current DNG Converter of Adobe uses DNG 1.4 by default. CO7 can not open that image file.
The solution is that you set the preference in Adobe RAW Converter. Select Compatibility Camera RAW 4.6 or later or Custom > DNG 1.1.
I have tested this with a DMC-GM1 rw2 file converted to DNG and it works.0 -
Thank you Paul !! ... I didn`t realise that the new DNG converter defaulted to 1.4 ..
I upgraded my OS before the converter as my present one wouldn`t run C1 V7 so updated Adobe DNG to the latest one at the same time (which wouldn`t run under the old OS either) .. can now evaluate these cameras by their RAW files . thanks again0
