Panasonic Lumix GF1 and Capture4

Due to a "strategic agreement" between Phase One and Leica, Capture One doesn't support RW2 files. There is an easy workaround available though. The Leica files and Panasonic files are essentially the same. C1 looks at the exif data though and discriminates against the Panasonics. LikeALeica duplicates your RW2 files a folder at a time, alters the exif data and file extension and C1 sees Leica files. There is no risk of corruption of your original RW2 files as they are not altered.

An interesting side note is that Leica chose to distribute Adobe Lightroom with their latest camera. My personal feeling is that Capture One's strategic agreements with their customers should be their first concern, but of course I know nothing of the behind the scenes politics being played out in northern Europe! I am waiting for my GF-1 to arrive, but I woud like to know, if there is support for Panasonic GF-1 in Capture4? If not, is there any plan to support Panasonic GF-1 in Capture4?

we found out that C1v5 supports G-1 raw files shot in 4:3 format (3:2 and 16:9 are not supported) + P1 supplied G-1 profile w/ C1v5 distro.

now, the way to make C1 work with GF-1 is still as it was in v4 - patch .RW2 raw files to Leica DLux4 and use profile from G-1 from C1v5 (which is close enough, at least colors seems to be OK) or try to make your own (which is not an easy task because of the way P1 prepares profiles - see their curves in TRC tags and A2B0 tag in their .icm profiles - at least I did not find any profiling software that can make that automatically, you need either to correct curves manually yourself or copy from P1 profiles)

PS: here is how to patch: exiftool(-k).exe -make="LEICA" -model="D-LUX 4" [.RW2 raw file name]

Thank you both. I will try "likeaLeica" as soon as I get my hands on GF-1! 😄

I'm still not clear and would like to know before I buy C1v5. Does C1v5 support Panasonic GF-1 files?

not w/o the tricks mentioned - why don't you just try yourself ?

download trial of C1V5, get your GF-1 raw files (yours or download from imaging resource), make those raw files LeicAlike, convert using C1V5 trial

as it was noted elsewhere P1 profile for G1 is in fact 1:1, bit by bit identical to DLux4 profile, however colors are good w/ it...

OK, got it and it's working great.

Fortunately, my wife is a software engineer. :~)

Thanks for the assist - I really don't like ACR conversions and I really did not want to learn Silkipix, but I sure like my GF1.

Well, I got it working just in time for the release of 5.0.1 with native support for the Panasonic files. Anyway, thank you Phase One, I will now be upgrading to Version 5 and I am really glad you are now supporting the Nikon, Pentax and Panasonic cameras that I am using.
