Managing keywords catalog globally

Hello,

I would like to manage my keywords (reduce their number) from the keywords catalog.

I seems it should work with right-click + delete selected keywords.
But when I restart Capture One, all deleted keywords are back (it should go without saying that it drives me nuts).

Do you have an idea of how I could get rid of my cluster of obsolete keywords ?

    I use a pretty detailed hierarchical keyword system with several hundred keywords assigned to 16000 images, and I don't see this problem with Capture One v10.1.2

    I did have problem like this for a while. It turned out that obsolete keywords were embedded in some of the TIFF images.

    I opened the TIFFs with Preview, and deleted the keywords. That cured it.

    I did not have this problem on my recent photos, until I had the idea of managing my older photos with Capture One. With these photos came the keywords that can't be deleted.
    I use a hierarchy of carefully selected keywords, and the cluster of useless and doubled keywords makes them a pain to apply.

    I did delete all the tif and jpg photos, but it did not change a thing.

    If RAW, maybe are the keywords saved into Sidecard XMP files. If yes you need show your config about sync metadata. If the keywords are saved into RAW File, I mean C1 can't delete this keywords.

    If JPEG, I mean C1 can't delete Keywords from a image.

    I found the origin of the problem.
    I had exported these photos from Aperture with the « include IPTC metadata into the file » option selected. I tried to remove the unwanted keywords with an EXIF editor, but Capture One managed to retrieve them anyway !

    The solution ?
    Delete all my photos from Capture One, delete the keywords (it worked !) and reexport the photos from Aperture — without IPTC included — (or maybe try the Capture One direct import tool ?).

    update :
    The direct Aperture import did not avoid the unmanageable imported keywords. I will have to delete all my keywords in Aperture, then export the photos, and reimport them in Capture One.

    Could it be that the keywords were still in cache somewhere and that the existing cache was re-activated rather than refreshed after you ran the original deletions?

    Hi,

    I had (and still have) the same issue with pictures imported with their keywords from my previous Lightroom catalog. I can't get rid off these old keywords.
    If somebody could tell me where is this cache, I would greatly appreciate !!

    C1 imports fist time always Metadata. It does not matter what options you choose in setup

    Good !! I understand that I have to enter the DNG files of the relevant pictures and find out where are my unwanted keywords, suppress them, and see if Capture One has forgotten everything. Right ?
    I will try with one when I have time....

    I did try to use a couple of EXIF editors with the DNG files, but it was a useless maneuver. The keywords did not appear in the editor, but were still there for Capture One.

    How else could you « enter the DNG file » ?

    I tried that too, but as you mention, it didn't work.
    You can open a DNG file with Text Edit (on Mac). I did it once, but not to that purpose, but I will try when I have more time. Now, I am a little bit busy....
