Workaround for C1 LE Media Reader error
Having lurked around numerous photography discussion groups for some time and picked up countless bits of advice, I'm hoping now to be able to contribute something.
One of the most recent (and most useful) bits of advice I picked up was to get C1 LE to process my 1Ds RAw files and stop struggling with DPP/EVU. So off I went and downloaded the demo version. All's well until I try to use the Media Reader which is supposed to pop up when I insert a CF card. Seems like others have had the same problem. No matter what I tried it wouldn't work. Even launching it manually still had the 'Import' button greyed out. I've tried uninstalling all the Canon Utilities (no mean feat in itself), re-installing USB and card reader drivers all to no avail. Anyway, to cut a long story short, what I found is this - if I exit the running version of the Media Reader application and re-start it with the CF card in my card reader it works (temporarily). Unfortunately it's not a permanent fix - it doesn't respond automatically when I insert another CF card (although repeating the above workaound is successful).
It seems that the Media Reader only scans drives once when it's launched - that's why it works when there's a CF card in the drive but doesn't work subsequently. So I now have a Media Reader shortcut on my desktop and I do this exit/re-launch each time I transfer files. Even with the extra steps it still seems faster than starting EVU, DPP or ZoomBrowser.
I hope this may be of help to others - any questions, just let me know. BTW I'm running Win2K SP4, Athlon 2600, 1Gb RAM
