How to print a price list
Hello:
Some background information: I am an iView user on the Mac, OS X. By now I did not see a necessity to upgrade from iView to Expression Media, but I sure hope that I will, soon. đ
I would like to start a little project that allows me to print a price list with photos. I thought I would add a description, order number and the price tag as fields in iView and the use any of the printing or export capabilities of iView. I can program a little bit, like scripts or HTML.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to approach this? An HTML Gallery with my own template? Or is there an easier way?
Thanks,
Hal.

Hal,
The "simple" way would be to define a custom field that contains the price for an image. Then define a view for your thumbnails using Ctrl/Cmd+J. This allows you to select which fields are shown against each image. When you're happy with the new view save it with a suitable name. Then you need to investigate printing a contact sheet under the "Make..." menu. I've never used this option - don't have a decent printer - but know that it allows you to print thumbnails plus whatever details are in the current "view".
You could code a solution and there are a couple of options I can thing of starting with a custom html gallery right through to exporting the data as XML and converting this with XSL-FO stylesheets and an appropriate tool (Render-X or Apache FOP) into a PDF document. You would then "print" these. The html gallery would be "easy" and the XSL-FO route very diffcult, although the results would be better. You'd need to be able to program more than "a little bit" though!
Maybe you should suggest this as a feature request for the next but one new version - hopefully they are busy on the next version and we don't want to delay that any more than we should.
