White Balance Tool Vs. Color Balance
I'm trying to figure out if there's anything that can be done with the Color Balance tool that can't be done with the white balance tool. Sometimes it seems like there is, but then I can't tell if I'm just seeing things. The manual doesn't explain the difference between them too well, so I'm wondering if some one here knows?

Both White Balance controls (Kelvin=blue/amber shift; Tint=Cyan/Magenta shift) could theoretically be mimicked by the Color Balance tool, but still in a either one, not both fashion. So far for the theory.
In day to day practice, the WB tools are very handy for their fixed angle in the color circle and ease of use and their independent use. It will be sufficient in most of the images.
The Color Balance is powerful in the first place as a THIRD control to attack a color cast that can not be eradicated with the fixed angle of color control of the WB tools. As a last resort it allows you to shift color in any direction of the circle (Hue) and intensity or amount (Saturation). This freedom is powerful but not as easy to handle as the WB tools.
To summarize, I think the combination of WB and CB tools is combining the best of both worlds.0 -
Awesome, that mirrors my experience exactly. Thanks! 0
