comparing 3.7 with 4

I have been processing some files I have previously processed with 3.7. One thing I notived was that in 3.7 I needed much less exposure correction than in v4. How can this be? In general I have difficulties getting the same results. Is this a matter of practice? Could part of the exposure correction now in part be taken over by the brightness control?
