Adjustment layers gone?

I noticed last night that the adjustment layer controls on all my images have become " greyed out" and unavailable.
On top of this the label showing the layer as being an adjustment, clone or heal layer has disappeared.
Switching the layers on and off makes no alteration to the image and the keyboard shortcut "m" fails to display the mask even though " always display mask" option is checked.
As far as I can tell this has happened since installing V9.03.
I really don't want to re-edit all my images.
I have raised a support case for this but I seem to remember someone else here having the same problem?
Is there a known solution to this?
