Older NEF files not sharp in CO, but are in NX-D

I should have mentioned that current shots are sharp.

The Nikon software will be applying an in-house "recipe" - including sharpening - that Capture One won't/can't replicate by default.

But how the images look in software doesn't matter - it's the output that tells the real story, and I'll bet that a suitably-tweaked Capture One conversion will match or beat the Nikon software's conversion in sharpness terms.

Edit; Or are you saying that the images are so blurry as presented in Capture One that they're effectively unworkable?

I recall that there have been other posts making similar observations.

    Screen shot, please?

They are so blurry as to be marginal to unworkable.

The puzzle is that I was using CO I believe back then just an earlier version and they were fine.

I don't doubt that CO is better than Nikon software. I will say that on contemporary files, the ND-X thumbnail is sharper and the image I work on seems sharper also. Don't worry though, 'case I am a believer in CO.

    Vaughn,

You may not be viewing what you think you are viewing.

For example, could you be previewing an old lower resolution preview file on a higher resolution system?

I don't know - just wondering what the differences by be attributed to.

While the monitor is newer, the overall system is much the same. The point is that I am viewing the very same NEF file using two different software packages. CO and NX-D are converting the same NEF file. So I don't think older resolution is even in play at this point.

It seems as though I should be able to revisit old files and using CO 7 make good files now.

    I agree.

I can't comment on NEF as I use Canon (mainly) but I can't imagine why there should be any difference in the processing of old files. You are opening them, right? Not just previewing?

I may have some old NEF files somewhere, although perhaps not any I have previously edited with earlier version of C1. If I find them I will check to see what happens.

I know it's no consolation but I just opened D1H, D2Hs and D40 NEFs in latest version Capture One Pro and they were all pin sharp. Windows 8.1 by the way.
