New Beta!!
Hi all,
We have decided to expand our beta program to allow more users to participate in the pre-release testing - we hope to get more feedback on all the cool new features before they are released, as well as catch the bugs and issues earlier in the process.
To do this we have redesigned the beta workflow - If you would like to sign up for beta (but didn't get the newsletter this week) then please follow the link to the sign up process below:
http://www.phaseone.com/beta
Once signed up, you will receive notifications when new betas are available, and you can download them directly from your profile in the my pages section.
Any questions about the process or beta in general can be posted below.

James,
Is it safe to assume that the beta releases will be self contained so that they can be installed alongside existing installations?
Much as I would love the luxury of an independent test platform I would be struggling to justify the cost and it's not yet time for another upgrade .... as far as I know ....

The app yes - there are some dependencies though that would be shared and it depends on Mac and Win as to what.
A simple a almost free solution is a partitioned hard drive and vanilla OS installation (if you really really want sand box it).
Appreciate this kind of thing is not for everyone though - a lot of people are busy, working photographers that this will not appeal to. Suffice to say Beta anything should not be used in production or on mission critical machines.0 -
Hi is my first post here
sorry for my bad eng.
The Beta has the support for Canon 80D ?
I have one subscription but I cant use CO
and the trial of Lr is ended (Jesus...Hate Lr )
I am without any software now 😄0 -
I just signed up. I was part of the beta test for C1PRO8 and when 8 came out, Phase One took a testimony from me about version 8's performance. With the "quiet" news concerning MediaPro, I would really like to see GPS coordinates being added within C1PRO 9.1.X. Currently, if I wanted to include GPS information, I'd have to use MP 1.5, export XMP, and have C1PRO 9.1.1 read the XMPs. 0 -
Hi Jim
I'm a registered user of Capture One V4, V5, V6, V7 and V8 but not V9 (sorry but I was not convinced by the trial of V9.0).
So my question is : is it possible to install/test the new beta version without being a registered user of the V9 ?
(Of course it could be limited in time like a normal trial version).
I would be interested in testing the new beta and, who knows, maybe I would be convinced by this new beta and buy the V9 licence. 😉0 -
Hi,
I wonder whether it has been crucial and inevitable to include the 5000 Euro penalty in terms and conditions?
I have been invited to join the beta community for the first time and this seems to be a strange practice to me. Perhaps I am wrong but have decided not to sign in. Just to be secure that no false accusation could harm my home budget.
Wish you all the best

I don't really think that a beta testing activity is, primarily, a productive way of trialing software not a trial a good way to beta test - although from a test regime point of view there may be some slight merit in accepting input from trialists alongside committed testers.

Hi Grant
Thank you for your post.
By the way, my question didn't receive any answer. I wonder if Phase One is really looking for beta testers. ❓
To tell it frankly, I'm a bit disappointed. A negative answer would be more appreciated than no answer at all... 😕[quote="Jim_DK" wrote:

I think it has already been answered in so far as it can be in Jim's post 3 above yours.
If you install on a separate machine or in a separate partition there would not normally be a need for a pre-requisite installation of an earlier version.
However there might be some requirement for Operating System updates that would perhaps affect whether earlier versions would continue to be compatible - especially significantly earlier versions.
This would be more likely the case with Macs I suspect - Windows, though not perfect, seems a little more forgiving in that respect.
Whatever you decide to do it would be wise to assume that there is potential for some disruption and try to keep "test" and "production"systems separate.
From my past long time experiences testing business software as part of a company developing the code as an an external tester (both independent and paid for the effort) I would never recommend using the activity primarily as "test" to see whether or not you might consider an upgrade. Wait for the released product.
One reason for that is if, as you previously mentioned, you are currently using a significantly older version there are likely to be quite large learning curves for new functionality before you could get to a point where you can know whether what you see happening is correct or incorrect behaviour in the current testing design context.
If, however, you have a good interest in the testing process then join in - but ideally you need to be committed to the process end to end for your benefit and for the overall test process and the other people involved with it - including the developers. That, in my experience, is what is necessary to make the broad based beta testing approach work successfully for all.

Grant, I think you misunderstood my question : my problem is not to have many versions of C1 installed simultaneously. In fact I still have versions 6, 7 and 8 installed and I'm currently using v8 only (and satisfied with it), without having any problem with the old versions. I could uninstall V6 and V7 but they do not disturb me at all.
My problem is that I did not buy the V9. So I wonder if I would be able to install a beta version of V9 (or following) on my PC and if I would be authorized to do so by Phase One, at least for a limited period of time.
Since I do not have the V9 installed, there would be no problem of coexistence between the beta version and the version I use for processing my raw files.
I mentionned all the old versions just to mean that I am a long time user of Capture One, interested in the evolutions of this software.
And subsidiarily, when I said I did not buy the V9, I meant that I had some reasons which could be interesting for Phase One to know : why a client who bought nearly all previous versions dit not buy the last one ? But I admit that this question is a bit out of subject. 😉[quote="SFA" wrote:

As I said above, yes, I would be interested in the testing process (I worked in software for many years) but I will not pay the V9 license for that. If while testing the beta versions I would see significant improvements over the V8, yes I would buy the license. Of course, there is the trial version for this second purpose but I am also interested in testing, not only trying. I suppose you understand the difference ?0 -
You do not need to have a licence to beta test.
You do need to have a Phase One profile and you do need to register for the beta though.0 -
Thanks, Jim, for your response.
I suppose that I have a Phase One profile since I am a registered user of Capture One and of this forum ?
I will consider registering for the beta as soon as I can.0 -
so what is new in the beta. what am i looking for? 0 -
That information is in the release notes. You will see a download area after accepting the NDA... 0 -
Hi,
what I have to if the BUGS from 1-st Beta and accepted from Phase One as BUG, are in 2-nd Beta not resolved? Do I need post this BUGS again?0 -
Only if P1 says it is solved but actually isn't. Not each bug will be fixed with the very next version or beta. 0 -

Nop, we have registered it, but the turn-around will not be that fast for all reported bugs.0 -
I've signed up for the Beta program and I'm getting emails when there is a new beta to look at, however when I go to access the Beta page, I accept the T&Cs and get taken to a page that states:
"If you can see this message, then there are currently no Phase One products in Beta at this time. Check back later or look out for posting notifications in the Beta newsletter"
How do I get access to beta download? Do I need to login within a certain time period of seeing email?
Regards

Capture One 9.2 was just fully released a few days ago.
I would guess there are no beta releases currently available.
More to the point here, this is a public user to user forum and under the terms and conditions of the beta testing NDA there should probably be no public discussion of any matters to do with beta projects.
I assume you have a beta test contact email address or some other form of instruction about communication? If so it would be best to use that option and get a direct answer from people who can tell you exactly what you need to know.0
