Lens profiles: manufacturer profiles vs. C1-Profiles
Hi there,
I know that there is some work done by phase one to create the Lens-Profiles that come with Capture One. And that must be for some reason... otherwise we could just keep on using the manufacturer profiles that come the raw files (if supported).
So what is the big difference / benefit of using the C1-Profiles instead of the manufacturer profiles?
I did try to figure out the difference by myself using some of my lenses that have a C1-Profil and a manufacturer profil... but it was hard to tell a difference. Need to say that I only used some prime lenses which should not have that heavy correction with a profil.
Kind regards
PS: thinking of updating from C1P 9.x to 10.x because the SEL1670z now has a lense profil from Capture one.

The lens profile models included with CO will correct:
- Distortion (barrel, pincushion, or complex ("mustache") distortion.
- Sharpness fall-off
- Light fall (vignetting)
- Chromatic aberration
We create the lens-profiles at the Phase One HQ in Copenhagen, so we need to have the lens in-house for this process. it takes 1-2 days to completely profile a given lens to our high standards.
There can be differences in correction from one vendor to another due to taste and method used for profiling. Without saying anything specific about process, I can say that involves a lot of different scenes and shooting techniques. It also requires the lens-profiler to be very exact and detail-oriented.0 -
Thanks for your answer. I already decided to update to C1P 10.x because of the lens profil for the SEL1670z.
For any reason the "manufacturer profil" for the SEL1670z did not work / correct anything.
However... using the Profil provided by phase one with C1P 10.1 worked like a charm. So big thanks for creating and adding that lens profil 😄0
