Folders and Process question please
Wonder if anyone using C1 4 could help me please with a query.....well 2 queries please:
1. Whenever I open a folder containing images to process in C1 4 it automatically add additional folders within the exisiting folder named
Capture 1>Cache>Proxies.
Why does it do this and is there anyway of stopping it.
2. In the Process Recipe box I have 'open with' set to none but it saves my processed images as Microsoft Office Document Imaging File.
Is there anyway I can have them saved as a JPG file which is what normally happens when I post process and save using PS3.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks
Dave

1) Look at the many other posts on this subject, including

There are many others.
We've been nagging about it for many months now!
2) Sorry, don't understand that one. Have you selected 'jpeg' in the process recipe format box?

For CO4 Phase One decided to make both the Windows and Macintosh version the same as much as possible. CO3/Mac already had this way of storing settings and preview files in the raw files' folder, and CO4 is now in line with this on both platforms. You can delete the .COP files in the Proxies subfolder when you are done with the raw files. Currently there is no maintenance option in the program, but personally I expect one in the near future (can't make a promise though, <grin>).[quote="camerashy" wrote:

It sounds like you run Vista and have the MS Off. Doc. Imag. program associated with JPG file extension. In plain English: CO4 does save output as JPG and Vista associates JPG with the Doc.Imaging program. Install CS3 and association will be set to CS3.0 -
Thanks guys for your quick reply:
1. Iain - I will follow up your links tonight and thank you and Paul for the explanation.
I have only just started to use C1 4 so still on a steep learning curve....with regards to Question 2 I should have mentioned that I use XP and CS3 and on the few images that I have processed I have had the image set to Tiff.
I have not had the output set to CS3 because I noticed that whenever I finished processing an image it automatically opened in CS3, whereas, what I would like to do is first process all the images and then go through them individually in CS3.
I must have Microsoft Office Document Imaging set somewhere but dont know where.
Thanks for your help any further info would be appreciated.

Hello
You have to be aware that this behavior eliminates the possibilities to work with any picture that are R/O media, eg CD/DVD or network drives like NAS where You have a decent security policy to protect originals.
It is totally useless, You have to copy all files to Your computer, or browse with a separate non Phase one program, and copy selected, to Your computer. Den take away read only flag, process, delete the proxy folder, save de settings filer somewhere, delete the files You copied.
Next time, You have to find the settings file, make a proxy folder, copy them, then retrieve the files again from the protected network drive.
That’s the most unusable add on that the C1 : 4 added to my workflow! So now I have no spare time at all, just coping files with BreezeBrowser, process in C1 stc.
So I hope this is a mistake and a fix will come.
With the 3.x of C1 I have a central writable folder with 42 000 setting files, and it works fantastic and I delete all the preview by setting a short time in C1 3.x, my 2 computer shared this folder for the settings.

Dave, it is easy to set file association in WinXP. File association is the link between a file type and the application (and the action like Open or Preview).
In Explorer, right click on an image (JPEG or TIFF), select "Open with". If CS3 is not listed, click on Choose program and select CS3.
You can also go to the Tools menu in Explorer, Folder Options, File Types tab. Select the file type (=extension like JPG, TIF) and choose the program to associate it with.0 -
Just tried one or two things and found out that if I save the process format as a jpg then it will save it as a jpg in my folder, whereas, if I save it as a tiff then it saves it as a Microsoft D I file.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
