Custom metadata groups
Hello, I'm a brand new user trying to learn the ropes after decade(s) using Apple Aperture. Please be gentle, I have a number of questions about how to do things in CapureOne that I'll be asking. First, in the metadata tool there are a number of standard categories: >Basic, >Vendor Specific, >EXIF - Camera, etc.
Is it possible to make custom categories that contain the metadata fields that I use frequently? This was easy in Aperture but I can't find a way to do it in CaptureOne. Hopefully it's possible?
Thanks,
John Q

What sorts of metadata fields do you have in mind?

Just to clarify (it's been a while since I used Aperture):
In Aperture (if I remember correctly), you could select metadata fields from a list and arrange them in the Info tab. You could also save sets of metadata, which you could then select from a drop-down menu. Capture One can't do either of these things.
In Capture One, the Metadata tool has a fixed list of all metadata that is available, and the data is displayed in a fixed order that the developers thought was logical (I disagree with some of their choices and have sent feedback).
What you can do, though, is create Import metadata presets to autofill your choice of data during import.0 -
I understand how to make a metadata preset and apply it to already imported images. I do not see a way to apply the presets during import. In the Import Form, the Metadata field allows defining the Copyright and Description fields, but there is no way I can see to assign a metadata preset to autofill other metatadata fields during import. How is this done? 0 -
You can apply your metadata preset upon import by selecting it as a user style under the Adjustments tab.
Yeah, non intuitive. It took me a while and several web searched to figure that one out.0 -
There are a number of aspects of Capture One for which, if no obvious and direct approach is available, standing back and taking a slightly wider view and a little time to consider options that are available may lead to a usable solution to one's specific problem.
It's not always obvious how to approach the matter - just as it is not always obvious in, for example, PhotoShop and similar programs.
If still in the dark there is always the forum where someone may have a useful suggestion that shines a guiding light.

Many thanks. I have used C1 since version 8 and could never figure this out. Up to now, I have had to re-enter data common to all of my imported images for one image and copy it to the others. If only it said Styles and Presets instead of just Styles, or even better if it were in the Metadata tab, it would be easier to find this needle in the C1 haystack.0
