Library Search/Filter "including subfolders"

    Martin,

I assume you are using a catalogue - I don't so may off target here.

In a session, so long as I am at the top level of "all images" I can search all images specifically contained in the session.

The default filters (thus search criteria) in a session automatically shows me selection and counts of the number of images (dynamic counts) by year/month/date and a number of other criteria based on Exif information from the files.

Assuming I do not wish to contradict that data for some reason I don't need to constrain my database logic into date silos. The Database index will do that for me.

However if I wanted to see such a structure outside the database then the apparent physical control of the files in a formal folder structure would be required too.

To some extent you should be able to work around this dual need using things like Smart Albums - a "virtual" and "dynamic" album concept that, once defined, is self maintaining so long as you stick with the outline folder structure that itself sticks with the structure you originally created.

Such are the joys of relational databases.

    HTH.
