Why is delete so slow ?
Hello,
Today I deleted (move to trash) about 1500 pictures from my Catalog. It is no finised and it will take about 1,5 hours.
How come it is so slow ? Deleteing using the finder take a few seconds, in Lightroom as well. Is it not possible to optimize this ?
System:
MacBook Pro
MacOs 10.9.5
Catalog on SSD
Pictures on a NAS (AFP) conntected with 1Gbps ethernet.
Thanks

No answer but just wanted to let you know that I deleted four pics today and it seemed to take longer than it should have.
My drives are internal so i'm guessing speed isn't the root cause but more of a symptom.0 -
I am using USB drives with referenced images and local catalogs, too. So I had a look.
Finder moves all files to the local .Trashes folder on the original drive or partition.
Capture One moves the image files to your user .Trash folder at /User/YourName/.
Checked with "ls -al" (terminal) to find and view local and USB trash folders on my system.
This means that finder only does a renaming, while CO physically moves them to a new location if they are not on the /home partition. I cannot tell about Aperture or Lightroom, because I don't have them. But I assume they do it the way Finder does.
Best regards,

Oh! Indeed. You are right. This is totally bad!
But, there is a big and easy way to optimize this. why not just trash the files into the Volume Trash (when supported).
Lightroom move then to volume trash. If there is not trash available on the volume, Lightroom will ask you again if you are sure.

Definitely file a bug report.
The same thing happens when moving files from one folder to another.
The answer (to speed it up, for now) is to change the current folder you have open. It seems to only occur when you're doing something like moving/trashing images in the folder you currently have open. That typically is the Capture Folder. So I just pop over to 'Selects' whilst performing a big delete or move.0 -
They will think about it.
