Same grid in portrait/landscape orientation?

The default grid overlay is 2x2 lines (3x3 cells) but I prefer to use a different number of lines along the long and short axes in order to have square cells. When I set 5x3, I get 5 lines horizontally and 3 vertically, which is OK in landscape orientation. However, in portrait orientation, I also get 5 lines horizontally and 3 vertically when I expect the opposite. Is there a way to link the grid pattern to the picture orientation?

    No, best is to use same number of lines both horizontally and vertically (for reasons you just provided).
