Capture Pilot - Are you successful??
Hi everyone, just bought a copy of Capture One 10, I'm loving the software with one exception, Capture Pilot. Every year I do headshots for a company and I let them browse the images through my iPad using Capture Pilot. Last year it worked, for the most part, sometimes I would get connection issues but I would restart and it would continue. This year, not so lucky!
So I thought it was as easy as making sure the computer and iPad were logged into the same WiFi, then start Capture Pilot Server from the computer and that's it. Today I could not make the connection even though on the same WiFi at the hotel I'm shooting at. I was looking at some documentation that wanted me to change settings one the router which i do not have access to since I'm a guest.
I ended up creating a hotspot signal with my iPhone and using that to connect. It seems to work ok but it disconnects often.
Is anyone having any similar issues? Any recommendation for a more stable connection when out on location? Would an Apple Airport Extreme be my answer?
Thanks,
Paul

I'm on Capture One 10.2 Build 10.2.0.105
Small update, I created a network from my MacBook Pro and it seems to be more stable now. (Instead of joining the hotel WiFi where I'm shooting at. )0 -

I think Christian was asking which version of Capture Pilot you were using.
I would always anticipate setting up my own network for a shoot and would have no expectation of joining a Hotel (or any other public network) for the purpose. There are a number of reasons for that but primarily, even if you accept the potential threats a public network can be subject to, there is no reason to expect the Hotel to be providing a rock solid Wi-Fi service or to have a well specified and provisioned service available.
Just my opinion of course.

Thanks for the info Grant. Would that be going into the MacBook and choosing "Create Network" ? That's what I ended up doing and it seems to work better with fewer interruptions. Does the Apple AirPort Extreme create a network that would be good for this? Sorry for the noob questions I just don't understand network stuff. Lol0 -
I'm not a Mac user so cannot answer your specific questions but the principle of using a notebook initiated network on a PC seems sound so I cannot imagine that it would be less successful using a Mac.
However you may want and experienced Mac user (or two) to provide specific examples and advice.

Using CPilot 1.11.1- MacBook Pro MacOSX 10.12.6 - iPad Pro iOS 11.0.3
I think you are already there, but just in case:
Under Network Preferences, click on Create Network - this will make an Ad Hoc network for you. By using it, you will not be connected to the outside world internet!
Connect your iPad to the same Ad Hoc network.
Start the C1 server (in the camera section).
It may take a few tries to get the right folder showing, but once you figure it out, it works quite nicely.
Hope this helps others.0 -
I use the tool outlined in this post to find the clearest channel to broadcast ad-hoc on, be it from macOS or an IQ back:
(article is dated, but the utility hasn't been updated in ages anyway)
Connection issues usually come down to crowded common channels (1, 6, 11) or physical barriers such as walls and doors.0
