C1 PRO 3.7.7 instead of 4.0 ???
I just got via email the Phase One Raw News February 8, Number 76.
It said: "The release of Capture One version 3.7.7 is planned for March 2007".
Am I confused? I was under the impression that we were going directly from 3.7.6 to 4.0 and that was going to happen fairly soon.
If 3.7.7 is coming in March 2007 when is 4.0 planned to be released?
Also will 3.7.7 have the fix for the deactivation problems that many of us including me are having with 3.7.6?
Thanks for any information!!

Bill,
All current information can be found posted at web site.
The highest priority for 3.7.7 involves our Phase One P + Series Digital Backs
Also added are several new and popular DSLR models.
The issue of Reverting to Trial state and requiring reactivation
is experienced by very very few customers.
This involves the hardware detection protocol used by Capture One.
In general, it happens when a system is set-up in an atypical or customized fashion.
It happens with:
> RAID systems
> When additional internal HDs are added
> Involve drivers
> Removeable HD systems
Keep in mind that there are customers with the above systems that do not have problems with reverting to Trial state.
So, we continue to work on a few Support Cases involving this issue and hope to learn more.
Since the issue is system-specific, we rely heavily on customer being able to provide great details on their system set-up.
So, don't give up ... hopefully we'll all get a bit smarter 😉
Sincerely,

Thank you Keith for your answers. Please help me understand the deactivation issue as you explained it.
I am not using a RAID system
This problem started after I replaced the internal C system hard drive with a bigger one. I did not have this repeated deactivation issue before this. I contacted Tech Support after I replaced the drive for a reactivation.
Involve drivers??? Is there something I can do here to check the drivers? What kind of drivers are you referring to? This is the first time drivers have been mentioned.
Removeable HD systems - I two external firewire drives (300Gb each) for backup that I never unplug.
My Phase One support case in 25106.
If you have any additional thoughts I would really appreciate them. Thanks very much!0 -
I think we'd all be better off if Phase One disabled their paranoid copy protection system and spent their precious time and effort getting 4.0 out on time instead! 0 -
Bill,
Simply put, it is Windows only; and involves any change in HD configuration. Program will revert to Trial state because the system is 'seen' as New.
Depending on the various configurations, a system can be New with each boot-up.
Some HD systems involve Drivers and these have been the problem for some.
If a driver for a hardware device like a disk controller is poorly written, it returns false or deviating information every time it's queried for an ID.
One system was successfully activated long term, and then when multiple internal HDs were added, revert to Trial initiated.
Another system may involve cloning.
As you can see there is not a specific common reason and this is why we continue to investigate and work with those that have ongoing Cases.
ajmichael,
We will be better off with constructive posts from those with knowledge of this problem. So if you are experiencing this issue too, then share detailed information that may help or submit a Support Case.
Based on what we can learn about the varied configurations,
the system ID protocol May Change with version 4.0
Again, fact is, it is a Very Small number of customers and it is encouraging to know that some have set-up systems that work without issue.

Keith;
Thank you for your answers to my continual questions about me deactivation issue. C1 Pro ran perfectly for several years with my Maxtor 150Gb System C: hard drive. Then last November I replaced the drive with a Maxtor 300Gb System C: drive and then the deactivation problem started. Sometimes I can start C1 4 or 5 times with no issue. Then the next time I start C1 it will deactivate each time I try to start it for several times.
I think I will contact Maxtor and ask them if the new drive can change it's serial number or ID by itself. It really has me stumped because I would think if I had poorly written drivers, etc. as mention I would have this deactivation issue with the smaller original drive also.
Thanks again.0
