delete place
Under the filter tab I have listed places e.g. countries > states > cities > location.
Sometimes I make typos or I have used different languages e.g. Austria versus Österreich or I used appreciations for countries e.g. USA versus United States. When editing it under metadata and moving the all related pictures to the proper spelled location, usually the misspelled location with zero pictures disappears automatically. That is a nice behaviour.
Unfortunate it does not works always so easy. Is there any possibility to remove manually a misspelled location from the list of places under the filter tab?

I'm also unable to work out why they persist. I have moved all my images to the correct place tag but the typo'd entry is still in the filter place list, despite having 0 matching images. 0 -

Do you by any chance still have the typo entry in your Catalog Keywords list (as opposed to in the Capture One Keywords list)?

the following solution from the CaptureOne Support works:

Hi ...,
In order to do this, click on the three dots icon in the top corner of the 'Filters' tool and select 'Clear all terms'.
Kind regards,
