Can Keywords in C1 be read in Lightroom

Lightroom will read your metadata created within Capture One, but only if you've configured Capture One to write the metadata to sidecar files - otherwise Capture One keeps the metadata in it's proprietary files.

There are two ways to do this within Capture One.

First - you can set the "auto sync sidecar XMP" to "Full Sync" within the "image" tab of the Capture One preferences window.

Alternatively, once you've entered the desired metadata for each image, you can manually sync the metadata (creating or updating sidecar files) by using the "sync metadata" tool from the drop down menu inside of the metadata tab (see image)

For stability reasons, I strongly recommend you use the second method. Leaving the auto-sync sidecar method enabled tends to result in some rather curious behavior (read: crashy & metadata doesn't record correctly) during tethered shooting operations.

Once you've created sidecar files for the images, Lightroom should read all of the stars/colors/keywords when you import the images. Very occasionally you'll need to select the "read metadata from file" feature to tell LR to pull in the info from the sidecar files, but thats pretty rare unless you've updated the sidecar file from one program after you've already imported the images into the LR catalog.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
is C1 also able to refresh embedded jpgs of raw files after processing so that the current status becomes visible outside C1, e.g. a DAM software or explorer (Windows)?
    regards,
    Markus

CO does never change the (content of the) raw file.

Anyway, the thumbnail in the raw reflects the content of the raw file. It doesn't make sense (to me) to embed a thumbnail that reflects changes you cannot see or import when opening the raw with another software. And what would you do with multiple variants of one raw?

    Thanks,
    makes sense...
another short question: can one prevent C1 to flaten hierarchical keywords, e.g. after import of keyword from a DAM software?

    Markus

I'm not sure in this works on windows but on mac if the files are packed as eip then the changes to the raw settings are reflected in the finder preview and if the dam can read the rip it will use that embedded quick look preview. Again I have no idea how this work on Windows.

My experiments suggest that when C1 writes hierarchical keywords to sidecars it does not show hierarchical keywords by any of the various conventions products use:

    child|parent
    child<parent
    child:parent

However, C1 will load hierarchical keywords it finds in sidecars. I believe that preferences provides a way to recognize hierarchy.

LR, Photo Mechanic, Photo Supreme do better with this.
