How Much Ram Is Enough for Capture One
Hi Everyone. I just got myself a Mac Pro 2013 with a D500 GPU and 16gigs or Ram.
Just wondering if its worth upgrading to 32gigs. I'm mainly tethering to a Nikon D800, P40+, IQ160, and IQ180 files and sometimes have Photoshop open.

You can use the Activity Monitor program (from the Utilities folder) for this purpose. This tool monitors your memory utilization in real-time and allows you determine whether or not 16 GB is sufficient. 0 -
32 GB(64GB) will be better.
Still, keep eyes on the image numbers in a folder of a working session.... maybe less than 500.
And limit the photoshop memory usage through photoshop preference while using with capture one software.
And a memory monitoring software like "Free Memory Pro" would be very helpful.
I would get 64GB(or 32), "Free Memory Pro" and limit the numbers in a session folder less than 500 and still control the photoshop memory usage while using with capture one ....
You will have (almost) zero issue regarding Tethering and Memory under these condition and preparation.0 -
Is there an advantage to using "Free memory pro"? I usually just terminal command "purge" to free up memory. 0 -
yes, the advantage is the software shows the memory status on the top of monitor. And very easy and quick to clean up the unnecessary memory usage... I can predict about it and clean up before the important moment of shooting as precaution.
When a lot of the memory is used for whatever reasons and the software shows about it... usually I have some issues while tether shooting... After clearing up the memory, the problem is solved...0
