Why do I keep getting this msg every time I open COP8?
"Cannot connect to capture server
Disabling tethered capture and Live View."
I am not tethered and have no camera selected in capture preferences.

Sorry to gate crash this forum but I'm having the same problem on both my computers, I use tethered connection regularly and do have MacKeeper installed. The only way I've found of getting around the problem is to do a complete uninstall and reinstall, even binning the preferences doesn't work!

Most cases we have seen of this error have Mac Keeper installed.
I'd like a case from anyone that has this behaviour so I can set up a remote session and look at the Capture Core framework in the app bundle to see if one has anything to do with the other...

Perhaps I was not not clear enough in my original post. I am NOT tethered to a camera. I am not TRYING to tether OR connect to Capture Server. Why would tethering then be disabled? How would it have been enabled in the first place? What is Capture Server? Is it connected to by default?
Jim, since you responded to a different issue than mine, is this something I should open a support case for as well?

I didn't say you had to be tethered. I said if you had the issue to make a case and I'll try and help you fix it. 😉
For info, Capture core server is always started with every launch, and is running in the background (even if you dont use it).
This issue prevents it from starting up in the background, hence the message. We suspect that Mac Keeper has something to do with it - though I need the individual cases to see why.0 -
We have found the root cause of this issue.
Some apps like Mac Keeper have a clean up option to "strip binaries" (removes elements from apps that don't need them).
Unfortunately some of the SDK's used for tethering Canikon cameras use older binaries and the app mistakenly trashes these corrupting the installation.
To fix this, you simply need to reinstall the Capture One application to restore the proper components.0
