Capture One 5.1 upgrade problem
Just upgraded to 5.1 and having major problem with program quits after loading images I tried to correct few images in the job with 1200 images and smaller jobs does the same. Never had a problem until upgrade. Does anyone having the same problem?

Were have you been upgrading from, CO4.x or 5.x? What Windows version are you using?
First aid would be to delete your preference file and start CO5.1 again. See http://xchange.phaseone.com/home/Conten ... nguageid=1
and look below step 7.
General precaution when upgrading: always uninstall the older version first before installing the new one and check your .NET Framework status (up to 3.5 SP1) in Control Panel, Software.0 -
To add...
There are few files that are accessed at startup. So, if the crash is indeed at the Launch of the software the first places to check are Step #5 and #7 of the following:

However, there is also another folder in the same location as step #7 "Phase-One". Deleting those 3 folders/file will essentially jump start the software and set it back to "0". If those are done and the software still crashes, the next place to look is the RAW files accessed at startup. Perhaps one is corrupt?0 -
Hope to not sidetrack the thread too much here...but as both Paul and Drew are expert...
Paul, when you say it is generally better to uninstall prior versions I have to confess, I have not done this with COne since version 1.0 UNLESS it was suggested in the included README for the version. When that was stated, it was imperative to do so...and should I be doing that with every update? I'm carrying a lot of historical baggage, I can remmeber when it was best NOT to uninstall to update in the 3.x days (Probably because it was easy to mess up the registration data then)....
You're the EF Hutton here, I'm listening and will do as you suggest. TIA0 -

John,
Always good to be challenged to explain a thesis. My preference to do a uninstall-install sequence when updating a program is a general one and not specificly Capture One related (stated for the record) except for a detail (see below).
Software today is installed with install programs or installers. The way how installers respond to a previous version of a program on your disk in seldom documented. The result is that often a mix of old and new files exist which might or might not affect the performance of a program or the amount of free space on a disk.
In addition to that - and now I become more up close and personal - Capture One has in my memory a bad record for removing software entries in the Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs list when updating or upgrading. And once updated/upgraded, the older version can not be uninstalled.
One thing I know for sure: when developing and testing a release software engineers love to use a pristine machine each run. And of course they test updating behavior, however I do not believe they test all 23 or so last versions against the update which are out there in the field.
Summarizing: the uninstall-install sequence is not written in stone, but I believe it optimizes my options for a healthy system.
[I have a test and reference system with CO3LE-3Pro-4-5 on WinXP maintained this way for several years running without an itch.]

Thanks for quick response. I upgraded from 5.0.2 and did deleted files as instructed and it still does the same thing, I have tried different job in case some file got bad ( I did processed the same job before upgrade with version 5.0.2 and it worked fine ) here little more info. program starts fine welcome screen comes up then images start loading ( about 600 )and after all images loaded will let me select all and if I choose to process program stops responding or if I try to correct images about 4 of them it stops responding. Should I uninstall it and then install it again or go back to 5.0.2?
Thank you all for your help0 -
Where are your files?
And have you tried to access a smaller folder? Say 50 images?0 -
files are on separate drive from C drive and yes I did tried smaller job with about 120 images in it and it worked, but was able to work with jobs 2000 - 3000 images before 5.1 0 -
Well.. something is certainly amiss. Create a support case and lets get some details. 0 -
after program quit it created a log which was sent to Phase One. How can I create support case and what information needed, in mean time I will try to reinstall it and see if that will fix it. I been using Phase One since v3 for past 6 years this is the first time I'm having a problem.
Thank you0 -

Send us a support case and the Crash Log.0 -
ok I will. I did uninstall it and installed it again 5.1 and it was doing the same thing. I did noticed one thing in 5.1 I had created a style preset in 5.0.2 warm black and white when images with that setting opened in 5.1 they were almost orange I did uninstalled 5.1 from my computer for now I have to finish a job and instead installed 5.0.2 which is working just great and processing 1200 images the same job that I had a problem with 5.1 I'm not sure if style preset has anything to do with it. 0
