Metadata won't copy over image to image

Hello,
I've seen posts that address this problem but can't seem to get it to work for me.
When shooting tethered I want a metadata preset or style to automatically be applied as I'm shooting. At the same time I want to be able to tweak the images (exposure, white balance, etc.) and have those adjustments show up on the next image I shoot. If I have "Copy from Last" set in Next Capture Adjustments then any changes I make will be applied but the metadata doesn't show up, even if I have a metadata style selected. If I have "Defaults with Styles" selected the metadata will show up but not any changes I make to the images. Tried all the other options i.e. "Copy From last using Clipboard" but nothing works for me.

It was working for me in CO 7 and is simple easy to do in LR so figure it must just be something I'm doing wrong but what that is I can't figure out.
