USB.3 Tethered Shooting?
Hi all...
As USB3 is a very interesting new feature of a very high resolution DSLR that is being launched đ i was wondering if any of you had experience with tethering cameras through C1 this way?
I believe a company called Sonnet do an adapter http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoe ... rbolt.html that allows the use of another adapter to connect USB3 via the Thunderbolt port on a Mac.
Does anyone know if this with work / if any of the C1 versions have the drivers or necessary software components to support a tethered connection this way (that is assuming once C1 is updated to support said camera - including tethered support)? It would make use of this new generation of cameras a very interesting alternative indeed...

Don't worry about Capture One and USB 3. USB connectivity is generic to the application; the application is not aware of the specification (USB 1.x, 2.x or 3) unless it requires that information. Any hardware device drivers needed for an interface like USB 3 are an operating system task.
Compare it with browsing the internet over an Ethernet or WiFi wireless link: the browser does not know or care about it.0 -

At the moment, Apple seems uninterested in getting (non-LaCie) USB3 drivers on board their retail machines. The drivers would have to be at the base system level, same as with video cards and wireless cards. Fingers crossed for Mountain Lion though.0 -
Thankyou guys... This has helped i think...
One more question... Suppose one were to use an external HD with both FW800 and USB.3 ports like the LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0, would C1 Pro recognise the USB.3 enabled camera, as being tethered if done through the Lacie? My thinking is that it would somehow bypass the drivers needed on the operating system (Mac OSX), but somehow i doubt it would be this simple...
Thoughts on a postcard please!0 -

I assume you mean that you link the LaCie external HDD through FW800 to your Mac. The LaCie drive does not redirect the USB port to the FW port and the USB connector is not a USB hub-type connection but a USB endpoint-type connection (you need a USB hub-type connection for your camera).
Besides that, I do not like the external storage for tethering: way to sensitive for errors.0 -
ciao everybody,
i'm going to buy a new mbp17 and a la cie adapter too (usb3 via express card): i'm not so good with english language so help me please to understand if my thought is a good idea, thanks! (i would like to tether the new nikon usb3)0 -
Hi Paolo,
I just noticed this thread, and your post. However I would hesitate before purchasing the Lacie USB expresscard adaptor as I had read previously that the drivers only supported Lacie drives (with USB3). Unfortunately I cannot offer a better solution, although I have read that apparently the Caldigit USB 3 expresscard has made their drivers work with other non Caldigit devices. However once this is sorted, then patience for compatibility with C1.
Once you try this let us know how stable and well it works.
Cheers

Rick - are you tethering Canon's with this USB 3 express card?
If so - definetly better transfer than the USB post alone?0 -
my sonnet card just arrived but after sonnet driver installation my rugged la cie usb3 just clicks without to appear (btw my usb2 hard drive works fine): i have to go through... 0 -
hi all,
i solved the problem about rugged lacie via sonnet usb3 pci: a cable with double usb connection-one for pci port and one to plug in one laptop's usb port to provide enough energy: it transfers 1gb every 10sec.
