How to tell CO1 to display only rated and labled files
Hi there,
I´m working with sessions and there I´ve often this problem:
I know how to create a custom filter. In this special case I created a new filter showing only files with 5stars and!!! red coloured lable. Ok it works fine. I named it: fine pictures and if enabled it showes only the "5stars and red" pictures, as expected.
The anoying thing is, that I have to click on, click of, this filter in every single folder, if I wish an overview of the TOP-files included in that folder.
This means
1. I have to go to the folder click...
2. go on the "search button" click...
3. choose my custom "fine pictures" search, click....
4. Yeah I can see the Top-files
If I go to the next folder I have to restart at point 1. - Every time of course
And if I come back to one of these custom-searched folders, the filter is still activated and I may be confused because there are no files displayed. So I have once more to start at point 1. to get back the view on the other files...
Ok, that´s the problem. Now I tried out to create a shortcut to activate or deactivate this custom search filter. But I didn´t found a way... (:
Do someone here got an idea how to manage this?
Thanks and Greetings
Sascha

Create a Smart album? 0 -
Hi and thanks for your reply,
I´ve tried creating a smart album.
CO1 creates then a smart album but in there I didn´t find any files.... ☹️
Remember I´m working with sessions and I organised my photos in a structure of folders on my harddisk. This folderstructure is indeed listed on the left side of the main CO1 Window. For me and my flow its fine. But I´m not sure if a smart album will work there.
But maybe that I´m doing something wrong and this all may be only my mistake, of course.
But what have I to do, so that smart album will work in session mode???
Greetings Sascha
PS.: Please excuse my laborious english, I´m from Germany and I´m better in reading english than in writing 😂0 -
I'm not much of an expert on smart albums, but here is what I think I have discovered. If I create a smart album to show green tagged files, it shows all green tagged files in my Capture, Selects and Output folders for my session. But if I green tag an image in another folder somewhere that doesn't show in the smart album. However, if I add that other folder as a session favourite, then the image I green tagged does show in the smart album. So maybe the answer is that you have to add the various folders as session favourites before the smart album will look in them.

Ian's reply is likely to be the answer.
For all "favourite" folders the Custom search should work if you go for the default "All lmages" album but be aware that you can also have active filters in use alongside your Custom search.
It's all very powerful but you do need to be completely aware of what is possible and what is happening to get the smoothest use from it. Or at least that is what I find.

Hi Ian, Hi Grant,
yes a smart album sounds good.
But let´s say I have a folder structure like this:
Harddisk D:\PhotosGeneral\Import...
and there where the folder "import" rests are the other folders like:
MyKidds
Landscape
Portrait
ect.
each of these folders gots other subfolders maybe:
B&W
My son
My Daughter
Mountains
Waters
and so on....
Down in this subfolders are the first folders with real pictures within. And I try to found a way to get a possibility to display all pictures RED+5Stars...
If I create a smart album it will search my favorites, yes and that is great. But I have to add all may folders from the end of the folderstructure...( I hope someone could understand what I´m meaning ) 😄 unless there is the option to say CO1 that it automatically should search in the subfolders...
But I didn´t find this point anywhere... or did I fail to see it somewhere???

Both Grant and I prefer Sessions to Catalogs, but I wonder whether what you are trying to do would work better with a Catalog.

Hi Ian,
thank you for your reply.
That is what I had feared.
This working with catalouges is somehow not my way. This separation between my files and the real datasystem on my harddisk is a little bit creepy for me. 😕
It would be enough for my flow, if I could place all the "fine pictures" into one special folder (named the WOW-files 😄 ) but without deleting the files away from their original place.
So I have to find a way to copy these "Red+5Stars" and not only to movethem.
But the good old Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V doesn´t work in CO1 or am I failing again 😁0 -
I'm not a great expert on Catalogs, but do you know that there are two ways of running catalogs - managed and referenced? With managed catalogs, all your image files are stored inside the catalog, but with referenced catalogs, they stay on your hard disk wherever you like to keep them and Capture One just keeps a database in the catalog of where to find them.
See "importing images stored on your computer" here for more on referenced catalogs.
Also see the blog here . (It was written for a previous version of the app, but this aspect has not changed.)
One of the disadvantages of managed catalogs, of course, is that they are very large because all the images are stored in them.
(Sorry if you knew all this already.)

Hi Ian,
thank you very much.
Yes it looks like I should rethink this catalouge thing... 😂
Ok.
thank you oncemore...0
