Move from EM 2 to Media Pro
Hello,
I am thinking about moving from EM2 to Media Pro and have some questions:
- I have not found any instructions on how to prepare for the transition. Any pointers would be appreciated
- Can I run both versions on the same machine in order to do some testing?
- Is there still an upgrade price available.
Thank you already now for your help.

I don't know about upgrade pricing.
The two programs can exist and run on the same machine for testing. The catalogs have different suffixes (.ivc and .mpcatalog).
The transition process is fairly straightforward: If you want to convert an EM catalog to Media Pro, first launch Media Pro and select "Open catalog." When you open your old catalog a popup will tell you that you can't save changes unless you "Save as..." a Media Pro catalog. So you'll have two copies of your catalog; you can keep the EM version as a safety copy.
But be aware of one annoying bug: manual sort order in Media Pro doesn't work right. This pertains to Catalog Sets. I discovered that the only viable method for converting EM catalogs with manually-sorted Catalog Sets to Media Pro is to first uncheck the "Maintain item sort whenever possible" preference in MP prior to conversion. (The checkbox works opposite to the way it is intended -- so you have uncheck instead of check.) Then use the conventional conversion method ("Open catalog" then "Save as..."). See my post in the thread "Manual Sort order in Catalog Sets". To the best of my knowledge, this bug has never been fixed.0 -
Thank you for this information. Overall how does Media Pro compare to EM2 from your point of view and experience? 0 -

With the current version, excellent overall. The biggest difference you'll notice right away is that the left panels now have the "white text on black/dark gray" UI, which can be hard on the eyes. These panel colors can't be changed. At least they left the Description/Caption field as black text on gray. Also, the term "sync annotations" is now called "export annotations." There are some other minor differences. Also, remember that MP creates a new set of library folders (vocabularies, custom fields, metadata templates, HTML gallery templates, etc.). I think these are cloned over from EM when you convert a catalog, but I don't remember. You'll have to check that.0 -
Hello,
I just downloaded the trial version - everything works as expected so far. I noticed something though.
In EM and in the videos of Media Pro on youtube I can clearly see the file location at the top of the screen - in thumbnail view.
I can only see the file name but not the path on my app. How can I change that?
thank you
