Browser and Tools on the same side?

    Sort of.

If you eliminate the Viewer from the main screen the entire area becomes the browser. You can scale the size of the images and narrow the new "browser" window if that would help.

You can then activate the separate Viewer (F10) and position that where you wish and size it to choice.

Save the Workspace for re-use and and fine tune as you feel necessary.

Alternatively look at the need from the other direction and consider floating tools that you can move to the Browser location. This may work better if you are randomly working with images rather than processing in sequence one after another.

    HTH.

Ok thank you, that is a possibility, but it really should be in the program it self, shouldn't be that hard. I can only resize the browser by resizing the entire capture one window which only lets my make thumbnails that are either big so only 3 can fit a page with filmstrip mode or 2 and two side by side using the grid mode, after saving and loading the workspace again I have to resize the capture one window again.

Have you checked the "Browser Zoom" option?

I find I prefer to take the tools to the images anyway.

I don't know that feature. How does it work? F10 on my MacBook Pro just mutes the sound! Is this available from a menu too?

Ah, I've found it - it's Viewer in the Window menu.

    Sorry Ian,

Probably one of the Mac/Win anomalies or an alternative short cut key.

The menus are usually a good fallback for finding things!

Viewer perhaps works best with multiple monitors where the second monitor can be left in something like 100% mode - providing system resources are adequate to keep everything moving at the sort of speed we like.

I would also love to be able to have the browser and tools on the same side.

I'm not sure that this would make any difference to me at all. I usually work with the browser at the bottom of the screen.

However if you feel the need to suggest a further development of the UI screen the best option would be to generate the suggestion as a Support Request so that Phase can properly assess just how many people would seem to support the idea. That way they can prioritise the things that concerned users appear to be most interested to see in the application.

    HTH.

Thank you - I have made a support request for it.

Tried the browser zoom, it didn't make it smaller.

I prefer all my tools neatly organised on one side =)

The browser zoom will change the size of the thumbnails.

To make the large browser window smaller just find an edge with your pointing device (mouse?) and drag the edge across to narrow the display window. To do that you need to first change the C1 window so that is is not completely full screen. Then you can pick and drag an edge to make the viewing window narrower. Replace the Viewer window with the independent floating Viewer (from the menu: Window>Viewer) and size that to your needs then position it where you want it. Note that you can also customise the Viewer window to include features that you might want there. The default is deliberately presented in a very simple form.

This is what I did but as I wrote "I can only resize the browser by resizing the entire capture one window which only lets my make thumbnails that are either big so only 3 can fit a page with filmstrip mode or 2 and two side by side using the grid mode, after saving and loading the workspace again I have to resize the capture one window again.

I have made a support request and got this answer, so hope it comes around in one of the next 8.xx versions:

That is a great suggestion however it is not possible to do now. One work around would be to create floating tools. You can simply grab the top title bar of a tool and drag it off of the tool panal to the opposite side of the preview window.

    I hope that helps.

OK, I was not entirely sure you had got that or I missed your comment - one of the two.

My personal feeling, as mentioned earlier, is that the floating tool option is a good way to go for flexibility but may take some time to feel "natural". Still, for now it seem that support agree with me about its potential! 😉

The floating tool is a way, but the best way is to have the feature there to customize it right in the first place =)
    Hope they implement it.

I'm not sure that this would make any difference to me at all.

It would make a large difference to me, save me a lot of time, and would be far more efficient.

Isn't it great how we are all different? 😊

If this small change was added (tools and thumbnails on the same side) it would save me a lot of time, and be far less aggravating to those with conditions like RSI.

Maybe it's made worse by my use of a 16:9 wide screen monitor (EIZO FS2333)?

Also, near as I can tell, it's not actually possible to float the Local Adjustment tools. You can float the layers window, but not the tools.

You can float both in the same way you can float any tool. Please let us know whether you need any assistance.

So you can, was trying to do it from Windows > Create floating tool. Thanks.

Is there a way to float the entire toolset "as is", with everything still as tabs?

Or is that combination not possible (all tools floating in a tabbed palette) because of the Adobe interface patent?

  • Paul Steunebrink
No, not really. You can experiment with collapsed floating tools, glue floating tools together or a combination. Also, think of saving it as a workspace. This allows you to easily switch between different sets of tools during your workflow with a click of the mouse.

Yep, thanks Paul, I have been. Ends up being a bit of a kludgy mess though, for something that could be quite simple. 😊

Glueing floating tools together doesn't give you the possibility to collapse/expand all tools altogether.

I support your idea to have a whole tab floating, particularly as Cap1 has to feature to create own tool tabs.
