Embedding Metadata into raw files?

Hi can some please explain to me how one embeds metadata into the raw file in Capture One - not just the output file?

Capture One is a Read Only software.
As such, direct editing of the RAW file is not available.

Most raw convertors don't write to the original raw file, they create a sidecar xml file to store additional data.
