Fuji X-T2 support

Phase One has been slow and deliberate in bringing support for new cameras. They spend a good bit of time with the camera, lenses, and RAW files to tweak and hone their RAW decoding, and lens correction, to be up to their standards.

They do a good job in the end. But it's not fast enough for some. ☹️

    Hi Bob

Yes, I appreciate it takes a little while to appear 😊 I am just excited with my new camera and keen to start editing ! I go on holiday in a month, so my hopes will be its available when I come!

I have had the reply from the case support, saying, in progress with no date, which is what I thought it would be!

It's frustrating to wait for what seems an interminably long time and Phaseone isn't great about communicating what they are working on, or giving time frames, so the wait feels more frustrating than it should be.

There are real costs too. C1's lack of support for compressed raw files from the X-Pro2 is going to force me to move a purchase of more storage capacity for my raw archive forward by about a year. That's about the cost of a lens spent on hard drives.

On the other hand, the profiles they create are really good. And C1 is awesome. And the only other real option in the market is Adobe. So, what're ya gonna do?

    Smile and wait.

Fuji jpgs are actually pretty robust. Especially if you get the exposure right in camera. You could try shooting raw+jpg until X-T2 support arrives. Then when X-T2 support is added you'll have a huge backlog of raws to play with. Or you could convert the raws to dng (and save the rafs) and then work on the dngs until support arrives.

I'm hoping that the next update for C1 will add compressed Fuji raw support along with getting the remaining Fuji bodies supported. I'm somewhat of an optimist though 😄

Some more openness and communication would definitely help. There are companies that tell you what they are working on and how things are going. If I knew they are working full X-T2 and X-Pro2 support with an estimated release time (it's OK if there are delays but at least we know what's going on) I would be much more confident than just sitting around and waiting for a surprise that may happen or not. Right now I would probably seriously consider going back to Lightroom if there X-Trans handling were better.

Just tell us: Will it be 1 month, 6 months or 1 year so we can plan.

It was a bitter sweet feeling when ordering the T2 as I knew C1 would not be ready for it, so the excitement of waiting (ok, waiting was hell!), then opening the box, taking the pics., and now I have no real idea of how the pics look ☹️

I haven't been on holiday since 2002, so my first one since then in one months time and its a photography trip, so 1,000's of pics ! I still live in hope of a lovely upgrade by the time I am back and can view and edit the raws! 😄

Guys I'm fairly certain that XT2 will be supported by the PO on the next version CO1. The camera has been just lunched and shipped to the buyers, so patience 😊

I am looking to forward to when it does happen 😄

In the meantime, I need to think about more storage for RAW uncompressed !

Yep, add me to the list of those that need X-T2 support in C1.

My T2 is on order, and expected to be with me within a fortnight, so it kinda takes the shine off to not be able to work on the RAWs

I don't really want to go LR/PS either.

I wouldn't have thought there would be anywhere near the workload that there was with the PRO-2, so hopefully a week or two should see a minor update to C1 to support the T2.

    Thanks

I will probably produce TIFFs with the Fuji converter until C1 has released something. I already dread having 150MB TIFF vs. 25 MB compressed RAW.

I really wish they would give us an estimated date.

I dont get what the hold up is. this is the same sensor as in the xpro2. map the RAFs to that profile and let us get to work. if there are any tweaks between xpro2 and xt2 RAFs, then bring that out at a later date.

The XPro2 is supported, so I am sure the XT2, which uses the same sensor, will be supported very quickly.
I think we need to be a little patient.

😂 I can say this as my XT2 is not in my hands yet but will be in less than two weeks.
I hope that PhaseOne can release an update soon after I get my XT2, or even before. 😁

Maybe you should have ordered it with 2 month shipping 👿

The X-Pro2 isn't full supported. C1 doesn't support the compressed RAW of the X-Pro2.

I have read lens corrections don't work either.

Are the Fuji X-T2 compressed RAW files supported? I just downloaded 9.3 but the session still won't show my RAF files, which have been set to compressed.

I believe its uncompressed only. I haven't downloaded the release version yet.

Still needing support for Fuji compressed Raw. Ridiculous that you guys are ignoring something the other programs already support.

I don't think Phase One are "ignoring" support for compressed RAF files, are they? It's a rather different demosaicing as far as I can tell. I don't think that they just need to flip a switch.

Other programs (Lightroom?) may well already support compressed raw from the X-T2, but that doesn't mean they do a good job of it.

Surely you can shoot uncompressed until Phase One manage to update the support, or otherwise pop off and use your other program that does support compressed raw. I don't see what the problem really is here?

Did C1 have support for X-T2 compressed RAW files when you bought it?

I've upgraded to C1 v9 for X-T2 support. I would have quite happily stuck with v8, but I don't expect PhaseOne to add support for every new camera into a previous version of their product. Just one of the costs of changing from X-T1 to X-T2.

As far as compressed vs uncompressed, well, storage requirements have only been going one way since I got my first 20Mb hard drive in the late eighties. 512Gb cards are already shipping, Sandisk just announced a 1Tb SD Card at Photokina. 10Tb hard drives and 4Tb SSDs are already out there.

If compressed RAF works like most other file formats the demosaicing should be exactly the same. They just have to run the data through the decompression algorithm and then it will be the same data as uncompressed. Maybe Fuji hasn't published the spec but otherwise I would have expected this to be the easy part.

    Hi all

Compressed is not supported. I have fixed the release notes (1.4) to reflect this. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Suffice to say this is not a slam dunk to implement in our current X-Trans pipeline - We are very aware of the need and we are talking to the vendor about solutions.

Thanks a lot. It really helps to get information straight from the source.
