cropping troubles
I am using CO 8.1 with Windows 7 64-bit. I have been using CO for quite a while and I don't remember encountering this issue with earlier versions. I think that CO 8 has changed somewhat in its use of recipes.
I want to crop a folder of RAW images to 5x7. So I set the ratio to that. I then go to the output tab. I find that if I choose tiff, I can get the process summary to be 5x7. I have selected Dimensions as the output size choice. If I select the jpeg output the summary reads 4.67x 7. How do I get the output summary to be 5x7?
Now that I have edited a number of files with the wrong output, I'd like to globally change the output size to 5x7 for jpegs from my goof of tiffs. I can't find how to do that.
Your help will be much appreciated.

Vaughn,
Are you using 2 different recipe files for this comparison or just changing the output file type in the same recipe and getting a different result?
The 5x7 values - are these the calculated values showing in the dimension boxes in the crop outline on screen? Are they presented in Orange or is one of them in Red?
My thinking is that your 5x7 ratio crop as applied to the file does not have enough available pixels to deliver the requested resolution (which suggests you might be using 2 recipes that have more differences that just the target output file type).
The Process Summary tool may offer some useful additional information.
If it is nothing like that (or some other clashes of settings of a similar nature) then I am baffled. Without seeing things in action it's difficult to do more than speculate.
HTH.

Hi Vaughn,
First, make a distinction between ratio and size. The crop tool determines the ratio, the process recipe the size. How can they work together? That depends on what you like to achieve.
When you select a specific crop ratio, you can define the size in the process recipe with Fixed, Width, Height,Long Edge, Short Edge. Do not use Dimensions or Width x Height.
You can however start with the size in the process recipe and make the crop tool adapt its ratio to your size settings. You need to set the crop tool to Output. Next, define the size in your recipe and start making your crops. In process recipe > Size, use Width, Height, Dimensions, Width x Height (better use Dimensions), Long Edge, Short Edge. Do not use Fixed.0 -

Vaughn,
It occurs to me that 4.67 x 7 ins is likely to be the uncropped image size - the ratio of your sensor output using 7 for the long side. (In Portrait orientation?)
This sort of suggests that maybe your TIFF process is set to produce a cropped file but your jpg process is not.
If you are still troubled by this anomaly after Paul's description could you tell us exactly how you are going about the cropping and processing to both TIFF and jpg so that we can double check our understanding of how you get the results you get.
