Stay with Media Pro. By all means.

Why? That would really help if you wouldn't mind. I contacted support asking the same basic questions. They scarcely answered the questions but 'indicated' that C1 could do most of this.

    HI,

Do you want "most of this"? If not, follow the advice. MP is old (based on older program) and practically free of bugs and very stable. It has A LOT of good features, and probably, the best DAM available. So, why settle for less? To save USD300? It's less than a medium quality lens.

The only problem with MP is with C1 poor integration. This is a P1 managerial decision (poor IMHO), as are most of P1 software developments. They have the best rendering engine in the worst MMI.

    Your call!

Okay thanks. This is really helpful!!! I agree about the price situation. That is not a big deal. I am more concerned about longterm prospects.

I was seriously spooked with the rumors that MP will ultimately be dropped as phase one moves toward adding more MP features into C1. That would create a catastrophic longterm problem.

The relationship between the apps is horribly confusing to me. Yes I hear that they do not integrate so smoothly. Is C1 being billed as an upgrade to MP? I feel like Phase One is saying that C1 is including more and more features found in MP.

Honestly, I do not even know where to learn which MP features are definitely not in C1, i.e. what I would lose by dropping MP and going to C1. Maybe I just need to see it in action alongside MP.

I don't use MP and have never looked at it.

However from what I understand of these things MP is a MEDIA File management system not just a PHOTO file management system. So for the rumours to be correct C1 would become the first program that I know of that is considered by many to be primarily a RAW converter but includes full media file support.

A recent post in the MP forum threads seems to suggest a more likely alternative.

I'm pretty sure that whilst making and refining some major changes to the internal working of C1 the effort to keep MP in step would probably not make much sense in terms of resources and costs. At a certain point it will start to look more sensible to do so as the new coded settles down and stabilizes, though such a point may be not quite aligned with any initial plans for projected time scales. That's always a risk with a major development project in a world of moving targets and changing opportunities. And of course there is always the chance that things start to move on again and leave the past behind once again but for now it seems likely there is a future beckoning.
