Backup To / Import panel - some basic questions

Can i choose a folder on my home backup disc and have sessions "sync" to this backup drive ?
Is there a separate utility that is good for "sync" of backup files ?

Many times I'll travel for shoots and i'm gone for a week or two.
I'd like to return home .. plug up my backup drive .. start up my macbook and walk away ...
and have the backup done automatically for me ..

any suggestions ?
