Tethering with Sony a7iii with Thunderbolt
We purchased a new Sony a7iii with a USB-C port. We are working with older iMacs that have Thunderbolt ports. The question is: is it possible to tether the camera with the USB-C port through an adapter to the older Thunderbolt ports on the iMac? If so, how long of a cable is possible, and at what length do we need to introduce repeaters? We’ve been tethering successfully in the past over USB 2, but with the advent of the faster connections, we’re interested in looking there. Thanks in advance for any input.

It should be possible. The limit for USB3 before needing to introduce more power (through repeaters) is 15'/3m. 0 -
I see now by looking quite a bit online, that there aren’t cables or adapters that allow a female usb-c to convert to a male thunderbolt plug. Apple makes one, but it’s the opposite of what we need. I’m starting to see it’s a usb only option. 0 -

Well there's a Kanex Thunderbolt 2 to eSATA adapter which also includes a USB 3 connection and there are also Thunderbolt 2 Docks that have USB3 connections.
Then to connect them:
