    Auto start on insert card media is controlled by the Image Capture program (Applications folder). Check the preferences.

    I think things have changes in 10.6.2. There is no preferences in Image capture (6.0).

    Yes, I was aware of a change in the setup of Image Capture since OS X 10.6 but could not find a previous posting here with details. The secret is that you must have the card media connected to be able to change the setting.

    Start Image Capture and connect the card media if it is not already connected. Neglect Capture One when it starts. In the Image Capture window, select the card media under Devices in the left column. Left below, specifics about what to open on connecting the media is displayed. Note that this display can be hidden: unhide it with the small rectangular symbol in the most left below corner. In the drop-down list of the specifics display change 'Capture One' into 'No Application'. You're done.

    Note that this configuration of Image Capture is set when you first start Capture One and answer Yes on the question what to do when card media is connected.
