Running out of memory
Hi Folks,
This is my first foray into this forum and I'm very much hoping it to be a fruitful one. I am running CO 4 Pro 4.8.3 on an Intel iMac with 4GB of RAM onboard. Unfortunately, I am experiencing many many crashes after about an hour of using the application. The error message I get claims that I am out of memory. A quick look at the Activity Monitor shows that indeed the "Free" amount of memory has dipped below 50MB; however, the "Inactive" memory has over 1GB, which CO appears not to be making use of. My question is therefore why this should be the case? Mu understanding of inactive memory on Macs is that it is RAM that has been used by an application in the past but it is available should a new application require it, at which time it becomes active memory. But this does not appear to be happening in my case, and possibly many other people's cases, if the number of reports of crashes I have seen are anything to go by. I note that the minimum RAM requirement is 1GB, so you would have thought that with 4GB onboard, I really should not be running out of memory as regularly as I am.
Please help?
Many thanks. Jose

There were memory issues with older versions of 10.5.
A quick search shows proofing in CMYK can cause memory leaks in some machines.
Latest versions of C1 4 and Leopard are (relatively) stable, I suggest creating a support case (via www.phaseone.com)0
