Basically the answer to your question is in your question already. Being non-cryptic, DNG can be either RAW DNG or Linear DNG. Capture One 5 can open and edit RAW DNG, but not Linear DNG.

TIFF and JPEG files converted to DNG are Linear DNG. Before these scans became TIFF or JPEG files, they were raw when they left the scanner but converted to a RGB file in the scan sofware.

Unless you have a special reason to convert TIFF and JPEG files to DNG, I would suggest you leave it a TIFF or JPEG file and you can edit in Capture One (unless it is a very large TIFF). Give it a try.

Thank you for the quick reply Paul - That all makes sense. I thought it might be to do with the fact that they are not 'true' raw files but (as you point out) 'Linear'.
The main reasons I have converted to them is because of space savings without losing quality from the original 16-bit TIFs. The few JPG's I converted for consistancy.

    Thanks again.

    Regards
