thumbnail reorder please
Life would be fantastic if a simple enough modification to Capture One could be implemented. I say simple because IView and Breeze Browser can do it and if they can it must be easy?
All my Capture One experience needs in order to be perfect is to be able to drag and drop thumbnails into any order before renumbering. This facility will save me at least 3 hours a wedding.
At the moment I merge my P25 images with Julie's Fuji S2 Raw images using shot date. Then I select the images I want using tagging numbers. I then trash the unwanted captures, tweak the ones I want to keep and proceed to make full resolution Jpegs of those 300 or so selected captures. I then have to load these jpegs into Iview Media Pro so that I can reorder them and finally rename them. These are now the definative set of images that I archive on DVD with the correct numbers at full resolution and in a format that will be recognized by any software in the world for ever more. I then bin the session, captures and all because the numbers no longer match.
The thing is I should not have to revert to Iview in order to rename my files in the order I want them. If Capture One could allow this I'd be so happy.
Regards,
Damien.

In a Portrait workflow I do understand exactly what you mean. I would suggest to use the \"Provide feedback\" function in the software with the description you have made here, this will make a feature request directly in our feature and bug track system.0 -
Thanks Ulf.
I've done that. Such a cool in application facility.

Your original post was dated about a year ago and I cannot believe this is still not implemented. Not being able to manually sort thumbnails is an incredibly annoying thing and should be a \"given\" considering C1's status an an image editing application. Is anyone out there listening?

Hello
All feature requests are taken in and prioritized upon:
1. How many has requested the feature.
2. The overall market need of the feature
3. The time it takes to implement.
If Damien is the only one requested this then it might take longer time before it is implemented. So I suggest you Damien a favor and request the same feature (if you see the need as well) and it might push the implementation to be done quicker.0 -

How do I request the feature? When I go to Provide Feedback in the software, it replies:
"Customer Feedback
Due to the success of some of our new services like the Knowledge Base and User to User Forum, we have closed the technical feedback option for our release versions of Capture One. The technical feedback option will still be available during the beta and release candidate stage."
Again, the drag/drop functionality is such a basic need of visual artists that most other imaging software has it without special request. But, if this is the only way to get P1 to include this feature, I am willing to go through the steps. Please advise.
Thanks,
Corey

The \"provide feed back\" function has been removed from the software. We only have this \"forum\" 0 -
I know. And it is funny that Ulf Liljegren with Phase One told me to request the feature while giving me no suggestion on how to do it. You are the first person to reply to my last post 9 days ago which tells me that PhaseOne is not really using this forum as a self-improvement tool.
I guess that explains why C1 is missing such a basic function to begin with. Too bad because otherwise, I have been impressed with my P20.

I would whole heartly AGREE, I would sure use it every day, the ability to drag and drop to move / change the order of my thumbnails.
Often it's just because of the client or product I'm shooting that makes it easier to use the software during a shoot. And I'm shoot commercial advertising, not weddings.
So the need is universal, not just wedding specific.
Come on PhaseOne......we are waiting..................................................................

DITTO, This would be a great tool. I'm an advertising and fashion shooter and it would be a real help to be able to use this.

The Provide Feedback functions with Betas and Release Candidates only.
It was removed from the Final versions due to R&D being inundated with Marketing and Technical Support inquiries.
All Feature Requests can now be submitted by creating a Support Case.
The request then gets logged into R&D and Developers system .

Keith,
Thanks for the response. I can't seem to find how to open a support case. Can you provide a link, phone number or some other helpful hint on how to quickly tell PhaseOne that they should add this most basic function to their software?
This thread is over a year old and I'd rather be out shooting.
Thanks,0 -
Corey,
Here is a Knowledge Base article on How to Create a Support Case:

i have been writing letters and requesting this for years. i have since given up and just reorder and rename in bridge and then reimport into C1. 0 -
That is exactly what I have been doing but once another program (Bridge) has re-named the files, the existing C1 session can no longer reference the files correctly and you loose any previous settings (WB, exposure, etc.). Besides, thumnail re-order is such a basic function of image editing that the thought of leaving a premium software program such as C1 in order to perform this simple task is a joke.
I opened a case for this today and we will see how long it takes before it is implemented, if at all.

i make sure that i rename the files before any corrections take place.
edit.
trash the c1 folder and close c1
open bridge and reorder and rename files
close bridge
open c1 and reimport images which are now renamed and reordered.

That's exactly how I have been doing it as well. But it's funny how many of us rely on Adobe to give CaptureOne a basic function such as arranging thumbnails.

<But it's funny how many of us rely on Adobe to give CaptureOne a basic function such as arranging thumbnails.>
Yep, There isn't much that C1 can do that Adobe Raw can't do. Especially if you are shooting with a Dslr. And it may even be able to process Phase One files (not sure on that yet)
Maybe we should be asking ourselves if we even need C1 any more? Maybe Phase One should be asking themselves why shoud anyone spend the $$$ on C1 when we all use Photoshop anyways.
C1 needs to provide a big insentive in features to keep us using.
I've been trying to get Cropping Guides, like in Photoshop into C1. The silly vertical and horz. guide that dosen't stay with the capture when processed is just about usless.
We need to be able to add several guides ( 4 to 8 ) that will stay with the file after it's processed and opened in Photoshop. I often need to put cropping guides on the file for the client during the shoot, but process the whole capture, so the client has some "cush" to crop later, and for other uses. But when the file is processed the crop is gone, and if I use the box to crop the file, then when processed I don't get the entire capture, just the cropped area. If I remove the crop box, to process the entire capture, then I no longer have the cropping box.
If you are only doing one shot, that might be ok to remember the crop. But when shooting lots, it impossibe to remember the cropping later. And it's way too time consuming to process the file on the spot, then open in Photoshop and add the cropping, then resave and close each file.
If anyone thinks being able to add and save multiple guides is needed. Please create a support case.
Thanks,
Jeff N0 -
Yes, I could also use the custom guides feature you mention. But, if they don't consider moving a thumbnail to be important, who would be able to convince them to add custom guides?
As for processing P1 RAWs in CS2, I have tried but it doesn't work. Does anyone at P1 know why?0 -
I'm currently running CS, so if you can not process PhaseOne files in CS2, it's because Adobe has not written the code to be able to process PhaseOne files yet. I'm don't think PhaseOne is going to give them any cooperation they need, so Adobe will have to reverse engineer the files inorder to figure out how to process the raw files. That won't happen unless there is big enough request for that ablity.
So....go the Adobe Photoshop forum and there is a link to "Feature Requests" and post your request.
Also....create a support case on the PhaseOne site and ask for the multiple guides that stay with the processed capture. If enough ask, who knows maybe they'll listen.
The last three updates 3.7.2,.3,.4 have been very minor, with no major features. Mostly bug fixes.
Disappointing!!!0 -
Phase One has a long history of Listening and working with photographers in developing software and digital backs.
Not many other programs out there that have direct links to R&D and Developers at all.
All Feature Requests are submitted via a Support Case to be logged into system.
ALL Requests get read by staff and given consideration by Developers.
For the Record... Phase One Digital Back RAW files are open to anyone who wants them.
Just as we get RAW files for DSLR support from companies.
Fact is that if the Tools and Profiles within Capture One are used to their full capability,
there is not another program with a more sophisticated algorithm that can produce the image quality results that Capture One does.
Why would one want to use the best Digital Back, and then an Ok program to process RAW image files? ...Kinda like driving a Ferrari on ReTreads... 😉
Sincerely,

With the new release of C1 pending, has anyone heard an official word from PhaseOne about including this basic feature? 0 -
Well, 17 months after the first request for this feature, the latest release still doesn't address it. When is the next release? 0 -
I have been using Capture One for several years now and have relied heavily on its 'simple to use/great results' formula. I have missed many things i find elsewhere in other softwares but always come back to C1 for its ease and smart layout.
(I have read too often the rantings of discouraged users which only make me stay out of the forums. I think its generally pilot error. If you don't like the way the plane fly's try another one.)
This topic I have decided to enter my two cents into regards the ability of moving the order of thumbnails in the browser window and then using the Renaming action to chronologically put them in a suitable fashion to give clients a polished CD/DVD. The original contributor to this string asked for this possible upgrade some years back now and the cause has been lightly touched upon since then. I too would like the ability to stay in one software from creation to processing.
When I shoot an event with multiple cameras and bring them into my computer I must decide several steps right off, perhaps depending on the client ,which workflow must I create in order to get order. Do I edit elsewhere first, rename and then import to C1? (Added work time=loss of $$) Can I get away with not really needing a specific order?( unlikely) What if I have finished the color balancing and exposure settings of a 1400+ image job only to decide later that several of the images should be grouped differently for multiple clients for the same job?
I too wish this added bonus to the next upgrade of Capture One and I believe with it I could convince even more of my associates in the event industry to switch to this software i have come to depend on. What do ya say?!!0
