C1 / G4 Powerbook / Location Advice - - anyone?
Hi there.
Normally when i shoot on location i'm near some sort of power source that I can keep my laptop recharged, so that i can contantly shoot tethered with C1 and my 1ds M2.
However recently, I've been shooting in remote locations that prevent me from recharging and I've found myself burning down the battery very quickly on my laptop when shooting tethered. In one case loosing power completely midway through my shoot. In that case I luckily had a lot of CF cards, but that wasnt' really a solution for me, since I prefer to see the image large on screen and also with ICC setting in place.
Does anyone have a solution to keeping your laptop juiced while shooting tethered?
Solutions I've found so far are:
a) rent a few extra batteries at 15 bucks a pop.
b) shoot to card and only power up when downloading images
Please let me know if anyone else has any solutions rather than there 2.
Best
Peter

Hi,
If you want just Battery power, get these-the only batteries for the PB that will last the rigours of location tethered snapping.
Good Luck

An very cheap alternative are the jump start units, I've got 2 from different manufacturers. I plug the Powerbook into the "cigarette lighter" adapter and get power for a full day shoot. If I shoot on consectutive days, no problem. It recharges overnight. Possible drawback: they weigh about 10 to 15 lbs.

Hi Peter,
I do a lot of location shooting too, albeit with a P25. I bought a cigarette lighter charger for my Mac from my local mac place. Obviously only good if you've got your car parked nearby. The other thing which helps a lot is to use a 6-4 pin adapter for the firewire, which stops the camera taking power from the laptop, but allows the file transfer. The 1dsMk11 batteries last for ages on a full charge in my experience. Also, make sure you keep you monitor off, until you need to preview, then turn brightness on just when you need it.
That was interesting in the other post about turning off bluetooth and airport, I hadn't thought of that.
good luck.
