canon tethering slower in 8.3.4 versus 8.3.3
hi.
just shot for 3 days with macpro and C1 pro 8.3.4. canon 5d mark 3 (shooting raw)
have been noticing that files were coming in slower (buffer taking longer to empty).
did a test, 30 seconds of continuous shooting (single shot mode but depressing shutter continuously).
results:
8.3.4 - 31-35 frames (over 2 tests)
8.3.3 - 41 frames (over 2 tests)
same computer, tether cable, camera, and usb port in computer.
anyone else notice a slow down in shoot rate?

No. In fact, I digital teched a job a few days ago with a Canon 5DSr, and 8.3.4 seemed to be running at lightspeed compared to 8.3.3 which had been buggy as hell, not only for tethered shooting, but just switching between tool panels.
Aside from the obvious just testing a new tether cable (you'd be amazed how often these go bad) it also may be worth your time to clear your batch queue, doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of Capture One, and running repair permissions a few times just to be safe.
Also, keep a close eye on available disk space. If your your OS drive, or target drive for tethered files are more than half full that tends to have a pretty big impact on tethering speed as well.
Good luck!0 -
I installed OS10.11 after disabling OpenCL and the previews were painfully slow to load. After updating to 8.3.4 when it was released, there was no improvement. However, I did select a slightly lower resolution for the preview and it sped up from about 8 to 5 seconds which I can live with. Your results for the 5DSr may vary from my 1Ds3 but I'd give it a try. 0
