Auto mask has developed a disease

I am using 11.2; formerly, when I used auto mask it was a very clean process, I would simply mask the area and when I released the mouse the mask boundary would "jump back" to the area of interest. Since down loading 11.2, auto mask has become strange. Now when I try to mask an area, auto mask stops and a get an message that says "calculating auto mask" and nothing happens (no mask is applied), if I then apply the mask it works for that swipe. If I then try to further mask the area, auto mask stops, I get the message and again no mask is applied. I am getting the "calculating mask" message every time I try to use the masking brush with auto mask selected. Without auto mask selected, the mask works fine. I restarted C1 and there is no improvement

This is also part of the brush settings issue. As I just indicated in the brush thread, I will report back tomorrow if my issues have been resolved and if so, advise what transpired and how I finally have it functioning.
