Suddenly- I can't have more than one session open!

I have a feeling that I may have inadvertently changed a setting but can't find it anywhere - so help would be appreciated.
Having had several sessions open for editing, I closed a few down so that I was left with only one window (session) open. I then opened another one, only to find that it had replaced (closed down) the existing one.
All attempts to open more result in the current session being elbowed out by the incoming one.
I've compared the settings on my laptop (also running CO 11 and working as I would expect) with those on my desktop but can't see any differences.
Any ideas?

  Preferences > General Tab > Catalog and Sessions > "Open in New Window?" not ticked?

  I knew that it would be something simple but was just looking in the wrong place. 🤭
  I've no idea how I managed to change it but a simple tick of the box means I'm now back to working as I was before.

  These things happen most likely for a perfectly good reason that we simply did not register at the time.
  
  But sometimes a strange behind the scenes glitch.
