Yeah, I saw that page and I guess what I am really asking is whether PhaseOne plans on supporting my model camera in the very near future, otherwise, the program will not be useful to me.

Support for the camera will come, the history of Capture One clearly shows our commitment to support new camera models across the board.
Unfortunately I cannot give you an ETA, as I can not comment on future releases.

@Christian Gruner hmm... I will have to take it on faith that they will ultimately support the camera, though I am surprised that they have not already given that Lightroom does and the camera is just as new to Adobe as to PhaseOne. 😕 😕 😕

If you were to look back through the forum you would see that this type of subject has come up time after time and for the volume manufacturers (for example but not exclusively Sony, Canon and Nikon) newly released cameras (especially those with a worldwide release, not all have been) become available within a few weeks of their availability having been assessed in the Phase test lab.

It is likely that there may be some timing considerations to make the compatible files available with some other factor in their release schedule.

There must be a huge temptation to avoid these sorts of threads by simply taking the attitude that "It's very similar to this existing camera so lets just use that profile and throw it out there to see what happens..." but, to the credit of Phase, that is not what they do.

There are always some risks to being an "early adopter" - not least those of potential problems at the point of manufacture.

I'm not sure why you seem reluctant to accept the information provided by a Phase employee even if you have not become aware of the many previous posts on the subject that would have explained how things work. Still, as a Canon user myself, it's nice to know that some people are buying the 6D Mk2.

@SFA, you misunderstand my post. I am not reluctant in the least at accepting the information posted by the PhaseOne employee. I fully expect that they will indeed support the camera as that is what is being represented by the employee and that is all that I have to go on. I was merely expressing my surprise that it had not already been supported given that their main competitor's product (Lightroom) already supports the camera.

If there is any trepidation on my part it is that I am a trial Capture One user (or I should say that I am in the trial period of using Capture One) so have to make a decision on purchase fairly soon so it would be nice to see how the program handles files from what is to be my main camera. That is all.

Also, you are correct that I was not aware of the many previous posts on the subject "that would have explained how things work". However, with respect, I am only concerned about this camera so when running a search on the forum, I only searched for news related to support for my camera. Admittedly, I am not that confident in my search skills so may have missed news regarding same.

Further, I don't know how realistic it is for someone to search for a post regarding a camera that they did not even know was not supported by PhaseOne, and then somehow surmise when that camera did become supported and then to calculate that time frame to arrive at the conclusion that it is on the order of a few weeks.

What might be helpful for future inquiries, would be for PhaseOne to post on their website not only the cameras supported (which they already do) but to list the camera release date along with the date that the camera began to be supported by PhaseOne. That way, one can readily see that a camera came out on date x and PhaseOne began support on date y. 😐

Phase One often explain that they can only provide support for a new model of camera (or for a new lens) once they have got hold of one in their labs and tested it to create suitable profiles.

Edited to add: and the length of time between release of a camera model and its being supported in Capture One seems to vary quite a lot.

Phase operate with an overall rule that they will never publically comment on future products in any way.

Now this may be frustrating in some ways, sometimes for some people - as in your situation of course - but it is their choice and it covers everything - no exceptions. I understand why they do it that way. At least they are not likely to have to deal with situations where promises have to be broken due to problems that are outside their control.

Support (sometimes "initial support" where there is further work to do for new camera manufacturer features) is advised in the Release notes - both in the Supported Camera listings and, usually, as specific comments listing the newly supported cameras in the release for which the notes are supplied.

You are, however, quite correct about not finding an easy search facility in the forum - especially the "Advanced" search which seems to think every word is too commonly used.

Quite why Phase do not seems to have made a general statement about support for new cameras in the Announcements and FAQ section is a puzzle - but maybe there are good reasons for that as well. Getting the wording right for avoiding questions from a worldwide customer (or potential customer) base might be more difficult (to avoid questions of interpretation ) than beneficial.
