Often when I enable Live View, the Capture button is not available; Capture One recognizes my camera so the connection is fine.

Nor should it be available. Capturing is not supported when in Live View. It may be an option of the camera but not available in Capture One.

Also, when in Live View, clicking on the LV screen, I get a "focusing" message in return, but the lens is not changing focus and the image itself is out of focus.

This is Focusing the Preview feed, not the physical lens.

Also, the image in the LV screen is very dark and does not respond to changes in the Exposure panel that I make. Do I have to make all exposure changes on the camera itself for LV to recognize them?

Making adjustments to the Camera is best and then fine tune in Live View.

    "Nor should it be available."
This is unfortunate and I would like to make a feature request for this very obvious and potentially useful feature.

"This is Focusing the Preview feed, not the physical lens."
Again counter intuitive and highly recommended as a feature (as in Camranger and other tethering apps, including the extremely inexpensive Capture My Nikon)

You're welcome to create a support case to request such but it will ultimately come down to what is provided to us by the manufacture as appose to our own desire to provide a solution.

Canon and Nikon both provide focusing and shooting in live view in their SDK. That is why ControlMyNikon and Camranger can control focus as well as run automated focus stacking with great precision and easy repeatability.

So it boils down to Phase One's desire to not implement focusing.

    *sigh

Fred, your opinion is certainly welcome here and your gift for stirring up controversy remains alive and well... however it is simply that, your opinion.
