Nothing unusual for C1 I guess. I have had 3-4 min. for 4000 images with an i5 SSD Sata2 on Windows. C1 does not have the fastest catalog on earth, but usable depending on catalog size and hardware. My new hardware shows this catalog in about 1 minute.

If you are just showing all photos so you can filter/sort, just make a smart album. It will search all of your photos without loading them. Smart albums can filter on many things.

It takes about 10 seconds on my MacBook Pro to display my 16,000 thumbnails when I click on "All images" to start a search.

Hi Tenmangu. Some users are like you, others, like me, have the same problem as RaBuDU (the OP).

I have so far observed that the use of an SSD doesn't seem to make a difference.

To help us out can you tell us a bit about your configuration:
    - Processor and Speed, amount of RAM, year of machine (or model)
    - Version of OSX
    - Image Files are referenced or managed
    - Where are the image files stored - main drive
    - if other, what kind of drive, how connected?
    - Admin account or user account?
    - What kind of images? JPEG, RAW, what kind of camera?
    - Do you use keywords? hierarchical keywordss? how many keywords, how many levels?
    - Do you use other Metedata?
    - Is the Metadata stored in XMP files, or in image files or in Catalogs?
    - Type of antivirus?

Preview file dimensions compared to native display resolution?

Single or multiple screens? Screens of the same resolution if multiple screens?

    Preview size : 2560; screen size : 2880
    MacBook Pro 15" + NEC PA242 (size 1920)

But there is no effect of the use (or not) of the second screen.

I can start a search/filter even if loading of all thumbnails is not yet finished.
Are you sure all image thumbnails are available or only the portion you see on one screen? Is the cake which indicates loading progress fully filled?

When there is NO search request in the search field, if I click on "All images", all the thumbnails are displayed within about 5 to 7 seconds. Meanwhile, the colored wheel of death spins, just before the thumbnails are displayed.
It is of course much slower than with Lightroom, for instance, where it's done almost without any delay, but no so bad anyway. On my computer, I mean 😄

Edit : and this is when I do it for the first time after having opened C1. When I do it again later, on the same day, for instance, I don't get any delay to display all my thumbnails.
