Exporting and opening in Photoshop Questions
Hi,
I am new to Capture One, having just migrated from Lightroom. Differences in catalogue, import-export, are a learning curve but I am thrilled with the editing and output of Capture One Pro 7.
There were initial issues with C1P7 crashing so I initiated a Tech Support case and found PhaseOne Support response to be quite outstanding.
Sometimes I need to finalise an image in Photoshop before final export. Is there a straight forward method to export the image with adjustments into Photoshop, then have the Photoshop edits returned to Capture One?
I am finding the workflow different and a bit difficult. The manual has overviews and the training videos the same with some specific info. Does anyone know of detailed workflow examples/training from initial import to final export including cataloguing, photo-shopping etc?
I export images as a sequentially named/numbered batch for my clients.
Any help or direction appreciated, thanks.
Gary.

I am interested in a solution to this too. 0 -
I am by no means as expert as many helpful folks here but I will try to address some of your questions. First there are very helpful videos on Phase Ones's website and YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/PhaseOneDK. Also check out the Image Quality Professor's blog http://blog.phaseone.com/. Personally once i do everything that is available in C1Pro then export to do final tweaks in PS, not roundtripping back to C1Pro. I suppose you could do that with DNG. Coming to C1Pro can be overwhelming because the workflow and interface are VERY customizable. You can add whatever tool tabs and palettes in any order you wish. You can also save customized workspaces (perhaps one for a tethering quick adjust at capture setup, another for dual monitors, etc.) I suggest watching one of the workspace tutorial videos to give you some ideas. One of the things I love about C1Pro over the competitors is the output queue. Being able to send web, fpo and hires tif all at once to designated folders is awesome for my needs. Hope this helps 0 -
I think the OP's questions live among more users, in particular new users and users who are accustomed to Lightroom.
The workflow with Capture One is a bit different and basically very simple. You import or open the raw file, next you adjust and last you process (or export, a feature that has been added for familiarity reasons for Lr users). Most images never see Capture One again after processing. You might post-process with an editor like Photoshop.
Optionally, you could import or open the post-processed result in Capture One again. That is what Lr users are used to but is not at the heart of the typical Capture One workflow. One reason is that Capture One does not dynamically regenerates previews. As a result your preview in the Viewer does not change when you post-process an image in Photoshop. This Lr-PS integration is typical for these Adobe products.
However, now with the catalog function, this could become more and more a habit.0 -
Thank you for your feebacks.
There is alot I have yet to learn so am thankful for any direction. I have viewed the Image Professors Blog and many of the tutorials prior to posting here initially.
My main reason for wanting PS adjustments to be reimported back to C1P7 is the final processing and image naming. Eg when finalising a batch of 20 images they are sequentially named as [project name]-[sequence #]. Within the catalogue structure I can easily reposition each image for a specific output sequence.
When PS adjustments are required difficulty arises. Images 1-4 may be in sequence, followed by images 5-6 which require PS work, images 7-15 doe not, images 15-20 do.
Currently I am exporting to a folder with the open in PS option ticked but then need to gather all these images again for final output, naming etc.0 -
This is the way I do it after recieving the customer selection (for inspiration, and remember there are a lot ways to do all this):
1: Tag all the images with 3 stars (1 star imgs never made it to the customer, and 2 star images was sent to the customer in a Web Contact Sheet
2: Sort down if needed. Final selects are marked with 5 stars.
3: Via the filters tool, show only 5 star pictures in the browser, (select all pictures and batch rename if needed)
4: Adjust the pictures for color (general toning and skintone), contrast, saturation, lens adjustments, local adjustments (basically utilizing everything CO7 can do).
5: Export as PSD to PS in the image root, where all I need is to do is the final skin-retouching (healing brush, dodge & burn, liquify and so on). Nothing else needs to be done in PS, as is has already been done in CO.
6: Save the psd generated from CO, and then save web and full resolution jpegs for easy retouch/adjustment verification by the customer.0 -
Im not sure if this is the answer, but when you are done in PS you just have to "save as" and rename the file ( e.g. just put a R behind the filename ) and save it in the folder you are working in. The preview in C1 is then updated in the browser with the changes you made in PS.
I myself occasionally , but not always, have to go to PS for more extensive retouch and go back to C1 for printing where i have saved some print-templates, and this will do the trick.0 -

Is this using Sessions?
I think the OP was using a feature of the Catalog functionality to ensure the order of the output. If so the get the same result the PS (or whatever) edit file would need to be "re-imported" to the catalogue I assume. Or some other sort identifier, probaby name related, would be necessary.
However, I am speculating here.
